Description
Been some time since I made a mecha of sorts, wanted to see if I could make a mech that wasn't a tank turret with stiff legs.ΒMost of the reference comes from Metal Gear, mainly Zeke with the Peace Walker legs and the Chrysalis head piece, but also Rex in some places. The first variant is literally that, since I couldn't think of anything to put on the arms: a railgun and a RADOME. Second variation had a 105mm gun, though I don't know if firing it would knock it over or not, and a 20mm minigun, since a 30mm would create too much recoil to even fire in bursts. Asides from those, both models have a 20mm autocannon in a remote weapon station, two six round grenade launchers, and eight ATGMs.Β
Did some research: this leg type, the bird whatever, is pretty bad for a mech. sure it can run in a straight line really fast, but it has abysmal turning circle, like look at ostriches. Oh well, it is fiction, and it's not the least realistic part, considering that there are boosters and the feet have skits or whatever they're called so they could boost around Armored Core-style

And what about the missile batteries buit into the legs?

No, I'm his lesser known sidekick. Kinda like Skull Face was lesser known...but you know, he died.

A 30mm minigun would definitely not be too much, the A-10 thunderbolt II (WARTHOG BEST PLANE) can fire in short bursts and maintain some accuracy, so I think a mech mount would be plenty to handle it. And if a WW2 tank turret traversing mechanism can take a 122mm cannon a future mech mount most likely could.

Loved the Warthog. It popped up in my head while i was thinking of a plane to make and ended up designing a plane built around a russian 130mm gun
Oh but the issue here is that unlike a low tank or a plane, the gun has lots of moving parts and is mounted on a pair of large, delicate legs. To make it worse, it's mounted pretty high up and far off-center. With the mech's center of mass being so high up, it can't really tolerate recoil

Modern gun recoil mechanisms have gotten to point where there is not really a starp blast, but a smooth, long recoil that a mech could definitely compensate for. Also, I assume it has an autoloader so it doesn't need a bore evacuator.

I imagine there are mechanisms in place that apply behavioral movement to compensate. Such as leaning into the firing of a weapon, as you would do when actually firing from a supported standing position.
Just an idea for head-cannon. (*brrrrrt)

Funny enough, Peace walker and MGSV are the only metal gear games I've played as I only own a PC. Still love the series

Sketchup is easy to use, though some of the more advanced functions take a while to learn, like I've used the software for years but only recently learned how to use the follow-me tool

Oho, this looks good, and reminds me of some of your earlier works too.
As to the mobility issues? Bah, who cares. This thing would look awesome /uncanny in motion.

Damn I thought I've improved by this point /s
Thanks. With the mobility, considering that I've already given it boosts and wheels, I doubt turning was much of a concern anyways. probably could have it jump and haveΒ azimuth thrusters or whatever to rotate it
