Not sure if it's new or not, but you can pay for license that work on a certain amount of computers.

Even though he said that it will not be free sadly the time bombed beta has already been patched by a guy, but I think this guys deserves a little support for his efforts, he has done something no one else has managed to do, so if the price is fair then I will buy the final product.
He is also looking to add extra support to change the start buttons but needs some nice start buttons that will match Windows 8, so if any of you would like to provide some I am sure he would appreciate it and maybe you will get the final product free for your efforts.

Donations yes, but paying to use it I disagree with. I wouldn't mind donating the amount he charges for it, simply for his effort, but charging for it I disagree with. It's not about the amount for me, it's about what it means to charge for a replica of someone else's creation. If he changed his mind and made it donationware, then I would definitely donate.

Yeah well that's true, I would have preferred if it was donations and I was going to donate once he completed the first one he started on, we will see though, he may change his mind but I think knowing that it's already being pirated may may him feel that his efforts are not worth it.

Shit you're right. Well I guess when a free alternative comes round I'll remove this post and create another. I find it silly that people are charging for an exact copy of 7's start menu. I find it even sillier that people would even pay for it. If you need to pay money to change the start menu in 8, it defeats the purpose of 8 and you might as well save the money it cost to get 8 and a start menu and just stick with 7 since all you're doing is converting 8 into 7 anyway.

Totally. W7 is a good enough OS and it's quite stupid to upgrade to 8 if you're just going to disable the metro stuff anyway, lol. I actually like the new start screen, with the live tiles and everything, the full screen apps, and the new design. I wish it would work better as a desktop OS though, but as a tablet OS, it's pretty fucking amazing.

There are a lot of startmenu replacements. Noone really needs Stardock's work.
