The train sheds at the CNJ Terminal in Jersey City, NJ, abandoned for over 30 years due to asbestos in the concrete that would cost about $30M to abate and replace. However, the sheds are a designated historic site, so here they sit.January 26, 2012

People used this terminal for ~60 years with the asbestos and all, and I don't know of anyone dying from it.... So I totally agree with you.

Yeah! You've heard of urban legends? This is an urban myth! Here's another: taking the lead out of bridge paint. They claim it's so lead won't get into the ground water. What a joke! So little lead would get into the river below (which oxidizes anyway and is harmless) it would be negligible. All taking it out of bridge paint is that the paint job doesn't last as long. This is progress?

Oh, trust me. I work for a railroad as a mechanic, and some of the stuff we have to do with paint and chemical waste is ridiculous.
