I have to admit that I used to most basic texture effects to be able to achieve this. Just a particle age and MBlur. Particle age works by changing the colour depending on its age to a maximum of 3 different colours. MBlur works by altering transparency in a radial gradient depending on how many particles are in front of it and its speed. Essentially it is an opacity map.

Nice! Those look like really convenient tools. The only one I'm familiar with is the one where it changes the particle colors depending on it's age, it's a really fun tool. ^^
Which 3D program do you use?

Did you know you can post your animations on deviant art just by giving deviantart a link to one of your online videos and if it is deemed of good enough quality you will be granted a license to post films with the option of giving a second license to a person of your choosing?
