Another great drawing murdered by my scanner
A Grecian muse draw for a Mythology contest. A muse serves as an inspiration of the arts- musical, oratory, written, theatrical, etc.
I didn't intend her to be anyone specific of the nine canonical muses, but she did fit the description of Terpsichore coincidentally... which saved my butt.

In Greek mythology Terpsichore was one of the nine Muses, ruling over dance and the dramatic chorus. She lends her name to the word "terpsichorean" which means "of or relating to dance". She is usually depicted sitting down, holding a lyre, accompanying with her music to the dancers' choirs.

You have no idea how long this took me and how many times I had to repeat drawing this...
My brother insisted that the legs were all messed up... I don't even know why I listened to him, but I guess I'm glad I did.
And the research. Oh the research!!! X_x Ionic, Doric, Corinthian Grecian columns, grapevines, and Grecian lyres....
For the lyre I had to take this 2D monotone illustration and make it 3D(and at the same time make it accurate) myself... So I took some artistic license for the colors of the pic...
Anyway, the background was just that of a few Grecian themes thrown together, so sorry if it's weird... I don't understand myself if she's indoors or outdoors. Maybe the setting is an indoor graden?
Despite the many flaws of this piece, I feel that I would like it for a very long time.
By the way, I used colored pencils, watercolor pencils, pen and chalk on this one.

Most of the time I work with coloured pencils. ^_^ Occasionally I use some chalk and watercolour.

This is gorgeous!
I love the blended colors, especially of the bg. The light streaming in is also a very nice effect.
The details on the lyre and grapes are also very crisp and nice.
An excellent piece; it really shows your talent with traditional media.

A piece done in full with backgrounds and colours is albeit the most priceless to amateur artists like us.. Though, actually even pros are proud when they do complete works like this.
Well, doing backgrounds.. It can be really hard, it's difficult to render them in a consistent way, both in line art and colour. Drawing them is very different than doing characters, for that I salute you.
Nothing much is wrong with this. Though maybe it could have been nicer if you align the rest of the background on the same perspective plane as the platform the Muse sat on.

I admit, for some reason it looks so 2D. Probably because everything looked too symmetrical and boring. I tried to break the symmetry, but it still looks boring.

Okay, since everybody gave compliments. I'll go with flames *insert demonic laugh*. Haha, just kidding, but since an advanced critique is encouraged, let's start from the top.
I dunno if it's just about the style, but I recommend that the eyes don't protrude the face. I mean, an eye bulging out of the face doesn't look good, right? Oh, is it really protruding? Haha, I dunno.
Second, the face shape. You could've done it to be a bit more sleek. It appears that she has kind of big cheekbones. Also, her chin appears to be longer than what's supposed to be.
Heading down, her hair is nicely colored, but it looks kinda stiff. Just add more "flowy-ness". ^_^
Next, her legs. If it's gonna be a muse, at least make her legs sleek. I mean, the one with curves. Her legs look like a soldier's--bulging with muscles.
Finally, her feet. My gulaay, her feet! What happened?! I recommend that you look at photos of feet. I do that a lot of times with my artworks. Haha.
This isn't supposed to be a flame, but it appeared to be. -_-;; Sorry.

You have no idea how good the outline (without the sandals and all) looked... >_< I Perhaps the shading was so bad that it ended up darker than the rest of the legs. Either that, or I'm starting to make up excuses. >->

I think your style is cuter than mine, really. ^-^ I'd do anything to be able to draw cute. It's really hard to change drawing styles, but you can always learn colouring easily.. I think.
