Another Metal Gear fanart. Sorry to those who won't understand
Anyway, I was bored and this popped into my mind. XD As all of you who have played MGS know, the Meryl ending is the official ending, and SnakexMeryl is canon.
But sometime before the MGS2 timeline, they apparently broke up for some unknown reason... o-o
This would be one of my crazy guesses.
Most likely it would be obsolete by the time MGS4 is released this June. Hopefully they'll reveal why. Anyway, those girls behind Meryl are women from the first two Metal Gear games who have had some feelings for him.
Took some artistic license in drawing them, so sorry if they suck.

Apparently Snake and Holly had mutual feelings for each other. Meryl's most pissed about her, I think. XD she was the cutest, but I drew her worst. -_-
It bothers me that the new version of her looks like a mix of the girls in the series. She has Mei Ling's face ponytail, and microphone thing, the color of EVA's clothes and hair, and The Boss' bandana. At first I thought she was a readhead. And like her name implies, she's really pale....

This girl's style is so tacky. >_< It's so... 80's. Haha. Wouldn't blame her. It was drawn in the 80's. She had feelings for Snake, but never confessed them. She reminds me of a female Cloud here.

I don't think Naomi had something for Snake and vise versa. Naomi hated Snake.

at one point in time she wanted revenge but as the story progress she saw the "other" side of snake as explained when snakes tells naomi of grey fox (her brother) and what he wanted her to know, its really complicated

Wow, this is sooo true. And it raises so many questions. The only thing thats canon in between MGS1 and 2 is that radio drama, and they still seemed rather nice to each other. Meryl didn't like how Mei Ling didn't want to shoot that kid, or something, but there were no bad feelings between Snake and Meryl, so maybe it was just because they were busy with their own things. Snake left and joined philanthropy, which is a terrorist organization afterall. Meryl stayed in FoxHound, even though technically it was disbanded. Don't know how that worked.
When I first saw this, I was thinking 'what about Gustava?' then I was like 'Oh yeah, she got peppered by shrapnel from Metal Gear D'.

Gustava, um, belonged to Fox... that's why I didn't include her. But at first I suspected her too.
Yeah. They were probably too busy for each other at one point. That's my best guess. Another one is that Snake must've faked his death at the sinking of the tanker, ending the relationship. Actually, that was a theory I read from a fanfic.
Any links to a translation of the radio drama?

Oh, I know Gustava was with Fox, but before the player knows this, it kinda looked like Snake and Gustava were getting close. (albeit, in a sewer, near an old foreign man) Then you knew she liked Grey Fox, but probably didnt think it would work, since she didnt know where he was or anything, and he didnt know that she was with snake down there. OR maybe he did, but since it was never mentioned at all, I think he just didnt know.
I would have a link to the translations, but the unnofficial metal gear site is down, aside from the forums. And I didnt use the translations, heh.
I like that theory, it makes perfect sense. But since Snake nor otakon mentioned meryl during the briefing or anywhere before the tanker sunk, it could have happened beforehand. Tha new mgs4 trailers dont prove nor disprove anything either, and I dont know if they can be used to give out clues, since if you keep track of where Meryl is standing, ever other sentence she seems to be on the other side of snake, showing that this motion capture sequence used was chopped up from other ones or something. Its not constant, so not from one thing. And the only real thing that I took out of it was that Snake, although changing physically, is still the same snake as before, whereas Meryl doesnt believe in this era of heroes, and no longer looks at war as something romantic, which probably happened when she got shot several times and left there. It looks like she has a chip on her shoulder now.

Yeah, I really did think that Gustava was going for Snake as well.
Well, Snake, or rather Otacon, did mention Meryl.
When you look at Olga after defeating her, and then call Otacon, he would say something like "Doesn't she look a bit like Meryl?" Snake agreed and then the last thing he said about that codec conversation was that "I've had enough of tomboys" We're not sure whether this meant he didn't like Meryl anymore, or that he must've been bitter (if she was the one who broke up with him).
To make it confusing, in the plant chapter, when you call him on the codec after shooting him with a tranq (just after Raiden and "pliskin's" first encounter), he mumbles Meryl's name...
Like I said, hopefully everything would be answered in MGS4.

Yeah, snake's been day dreaming since MG2, although back then he called them nightmares. The latest mgs4 trailer did a really nice shadow moses in ps3 graphics. the snow was sticking to his suit and everything, but I really liked how when Snake woke up it went from the mgs1 graphics over to the mgs4 graphics.
