I see your colours are coming out neater, but they're also coming out kind of pale -- are you colouring underneath the pencil lines or are you using a faded colour to paint over them? or if you're just keeping the blacks grey for contrast you could make her lines grey using mask layers so they stand out against black.

I'm using colours at half-strength opacity to keep the pencil lines visible when I colour it in. I make a layer over the one with the line art and colour there. Any tips for a budding painter? o uo

Ah, that explains it. Okay, can you make "mask layers" in Sai? What I do is I scan the drawing, make it a negative image and copy it, then make an all black layer, make a mask for that layer and paste my drawing into the mask, then I delete the layer underneath and any colours I use will show underneath the line art. Does that make any sense?

I think in Sai you have to create a new layer "set", make a raster layer that is all black then create a "mask" within that set, and set it to "hide all", then select the mask layer and paste your negative drawing into it -- the reason it has to be negative is because on mask layers anything that's shown as white will show on the drawing and anything shown as black will not show.

Also, you can use mask layers to give the lines colour by painting on the raster layer that is attached to it, so you'd be able to have her snake end totally black and have the lines for that part of her as grey to give contrast against the black.

If none of that makes sense I'm going to be doing a "how I draw" video soon in Paint Shop Pro which will hopefully help.
