I felt really sorry for the Royal Guards in that season ender. The Changelings were simply 2 or 3 steps ahead of them, and there was nothing anypony really could've done about it. Their commander was snared by the plan, and if they had tried reporting their suspicions to Celestia (or Luna) directly they wouldn't have been taken seriously. Add in the fact that it's not easy to "spot the impostor" for pegasi or earth guards (who don't have the magic color change tip-off), and its no wonder they performed so poorly!

I think it more "The Chronicles of Shining Armor" instead - focused on Shining Armor's service in the Royal Guard running parallel to the events of the first two seasons. (Mostly to answer all the questions Shining and Cadance introduced when they first appeared, e.g. "Where were they Season 1 and 2?", "How did Shining get to be Captain of the Guard?", "Why didn't we see them before?", etc.)

Well, those two sure had a bad day, but I wonder what happened with over 100 of the other guards, and even if most of tham were changelings or whatever they were called, it still mean that the real guards had to be captured, come on.
Mane 6 beat up 100 changelings on they own, even Fluthershy did well without going into rage stage, so why Royal guards fail so badly that they get defeated offscreen.

Heh, This logic is realy annoying for me, it is not realy nesesery to take away screen time from guards/soldiers on good side, or make tham fall terribly, just to make the main heroes look good.
I mean, Flutthershy defeated changelings by just covering in fear, do they realy expect us to think that changelings are powerfull invasion forces what defeated army of guards and took over kingdom, when in another scene many of tham fall to cute flutthershy ?
I m not sure do it is just me, but the way how Celestia and guards falled so badly only to make mane 6, Shinning armor and Cadence look good is pointless and dissapointing for the fans ( it make the invasion and war so less epic ).
