Ivan(Yoan) Shishman is a XIV century Bulgarian emperor and a South Slavic folklore hero.He ruled the Bulgarian empire from 1371 till 1395 and his rule is marked by constant war with the Ottoman invaders until his death right after the battle of Rovine when Bayazid I ordered his beheading. His strugle and love from the Balkan people earned him the place as the most loved figure in the Bulgarian folklore alongside Krali Marko (Marko Mrnyachevik)
Dressed in typical Italian armor fashion with surecoat with the lion from his coins which was later redrawn for Mauro Orbini's book "The Realm of the Slavs" and later ended as the modern Bulgarian coat of arms.

Well, kind of. The one from which the family is known to derive (Shishman, the despot of Vidin, 13th century) was a Cuman most probably, descendant from the many Cumans that fled Hungary to Bulgaria after early 13th century.

Oh were just making jokes how Bulgarians can't poke their heads on the Medival historical scene without someone pretending or saying or heritage is theirs or causing a big ruckuss over nothing.
