***NEW*** UNIFORM FOR THE LAND OF LOCKS ADDED TO BOTTOM!!!** Something new I learned about Konoha ANBU: Men have the red ANBU tattoo on their left shoulder and women on the right shoulder.
Also, try not to put your characters in blue jeans or modern western attire too much.
This is another sort of practice I do with character creation, especially with Naruto and the various countries being so diverse and important. Once you choose a country then do more research on your own, but feel free to consult my tutorials. There are going to be A LOT of them due to popular request!
With making your own art, you do get an "artist's license" but that licence becomes more like a learners permit when you're making characters for someone else's series. Ya gotta respect the guidelines they put down for themselves if you expect to make a believable and well-created character.
You might even find it helpful to listen to some of the Naruto OSTs to get your mind in the "ninja zone". I do it.

The lack of historical knowledge of North America astounds me as a history student (but I also have no life).
No, we had very positive relations with the Americans until you dudes went to war with us over land and you lost (in a SMALL NUTSHELL).
Some land was ceded to either side, like fort DΓ©troit (now the city), was a French fort, then the Brits kicked them out in the 1600s, then at some point we gave it to you guys. My province (next to Maine) was actually part of America during the original American settlement (but contained no settlements until the late 1700s and was then part of the Canadas at that time).Β
WWI is a sticky subject. Some of us see it that you guys let us, and Europe, burn. The majority of casualties were in the first two years, the war was 4 years long, you guys were in for a year (yes, you ended the war, but you were also pretty much the only people alive).
Also, fun fact, American soldiers were not even close to "the best" in WWI. 1/3 of American soldiers spoke no English, everyone else had experience at the time (because they were there already). American historians who are focused on skill say it was actually us who were "the best" (hence our nickname "Stormtroopers'; occasionally, the Germans would just leave when we were sent in)... buuuuutttt we were the most bloodthirsty and cruel (worse than the Germans by SOME soldiers' accounts). We hide that, because we think we're perfectly peaceful. It's not in textbooks anywhere.
I could really go on. I sometimes cannot stop myself.Β

All it is is the basic pic and name on this. It's pretty decent but around half of your outfits are pretty plain in cut/design as-is. I would recommend that you, as an artist, maybe check out some fashion and read up on it a little. It's good to have a fair understanding of how clothes can fit/be cut (it's okay if you can't quite get folds and stuff down, that's not quite what I mean). You might want to get inspiration from the folk outfits of other cultures (meaning learn some "weird" stuff to inspire you). Just a thought, looks alright as is, however.

I think the idea was sort of like how there's Japanese people in Japan, but there are also Ainu people (Ainu is a former, darker-skinned tribe in Hokkaido). It's just how it is. I understand dark-skinned viewers want dark-skinned OCs, but if you want a believable OC, it's more than what YOU want in an already created story line.

EXACTLY! I knew about the Ainu and I was figuring it was more along those lines. Yeah I get it too that they want dark OCs and that they may feel like they are stunted by being limited to Kumo for very dark or Iwa for somewhat dark. But then, doesn't that make you feel like "well I'm gonna make the most interested Kumo/Iwa oc yet!" Then? I've never done an Iwa OC, and I recently have and I love him. He's more balanced and simple and looks like he could be a part of the show. But as for the story, it's already been written that Iwa and Kumo are the places to be from if you want to have a Dark OC and stick to Canon. Otherwise if you see fit, make up your own country/village and have them hail from there, just don't over do it lol

I really love your tutorials. I haven't made any ocs yet, but I am working on a couple concepts. I use these for a lot of reference. Do you think you could maybe go over the common jutsu types in the different ?

Nice tutorial, but I think you could have spread out a bit more on Ame since a lot revolved around it for a bunch of arcs. So I'd like to point out some points I've gotten from observing Ame in the anime.
I'd like to point out that they have their own kind of chuunin/jounin vests; if you look up that filler episode where jiraiya tries to teach Naruto how to resist genjutsu, the Ame nins who attacked them are all wearing vests.
And I also noticed that a bunch Ame guys from the Chuunin exam arc were wearing some sort of skin-color full body suit, which my guess is their version of a spandex suit. God help us all when they suddenly change it's color to green.
And I just want to add that the pic you put up there of the Ame Orphans' clothes might not be a good reference for those who're making Ame OCs, since from what I've observed their outfits highly based from Jiraiya's influence of wearing traditional clothes. If you've noticed, other people in his generation also favor the traditional kimono/yukata-style, such as Tsunade and Orochimaru, which stems from their lifestyles in Konoha. So while their clothes aren't necessarily impractical in Ame, though it's kinda leaning towards it, it's not their standard uniform. However, kudos to the umbrella bit, I've kinda forgotten about that since Kishi's never brought it up after that Idate (or at least I think that's his name) filler ep.

As it was already pointed out in the tutorial, this is simply some of the things ninja can wear. If you don't like my tutorial or find flaws with it, you are free to make your own, by all means. If you have +4h to make one please do so, more tutorials will help for more reference.
Please don't text wall me (no one reads them, including me). I don't watch Naruto or read the manga, I don't care enough about a silly tutorial to go and read a whole series I'm not very fond of. I don't really like anime in general.

Basic information is always lacking, that's why it's called basic information. Most people who make OCs for Naruto only use the very basic plot line to begin with; the tutorial wouldn't be this popular if people weren't fining it useful. I didn't submit it to all the groups, the groups added it.
Must be worth something.

I suppose you're right. Since Ame is a smaller country compared to the over-inflated Leaf. I should probably research on Ame tutorials and see how many there are.
It must be stressful. I'd imagine you;d have to research all the info, then you'd also have to find picture references as well, which is a bitch at times. Plus you'd still have to piece it all together and make sure it's coherent. >.>
