Our character design professor Ray Goto taught us this method so I thought it'd only be fair to pass it along. It makes life easier, doesn't it? LoL It was an eye opener. But again, this doesn't work with foreshortening, and in my opinion most poses are pretty stiff without foreshortening, however this'll definitely give you a step in the right direction! Thanks!

Please comment if you fave, so I know if this tutorial is usefull or not. I'm usually not a stickler about comment-fave ratio, except when it comes to my tuts. That way I know what to do for the next one! Thanks!

Does this work if it's abit lower or higher? More variety on this would be awesome to see it better. Not bad.

Yup, it works in all cases except foreshortening. Same concepts are applied n.n

Yep I got that I meant up or down where the arm would bend correctly.

ThirdPotato In reply to DryBonesReborn [2011-02-28 19:36:58 +0000 UTC]

If you got that, then it should answer your question XDDD you could move the arm above the head, away from the head, below the head, the concept is all the same. Draw a line from the shoulder to the hand, and extend the perpendicular halfway through and that's the elbow. Doesn't work for foreshortening. Course you have to take into account the length of the arm.

This was extremely useful. it's more or less level with shoulder. does this still work if the hand is way far above or way far below shoulder height too?

ThirdPotato In reply to fenrislorsrai [2011-01-16 03:25:31 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Unfortunately this doesn't work in any case of foreshortening >,< I should try to find a cheat for that as well XD
