Description

What a horrible girl this is. Lovely, but horrible. I think Regalia is my favourite design-wise? And also kinda personality-wise. She’s also one of the ones who finds it the most difficult to be a better person and give up bad habits, which is lots of fun. Regalia is also the first of this AU that I thought about making, so is pretty much the reason this thing exists. She’s also the only one of the set to go through virtually no changes through the whole designing and naming process. The only thing I tweaked with her was her other parent, changing it from Fleur de Lis to Fancy Pants.

~~~~~
Which brings us to!
Full Name: Resplendent Regalia
Nickname(s): Regalia, Reggie, Lia
Gender: Female
Species: Unicorn
Talent: Stealing
Cutie Mark: A blue diamond hidden behind a purple mask
Parents: Rarity and Fancy Pants
Antithesis: Generosity.
What’s the opposite of giving things to those in need out of the goodness of your heart? Taking them away because you want them, of course, which is exactly what Regalia here does best. Quite literally, in her case, as well. See, Regalia might be described by some as your typical rich kid; she’s entitled, spoilt, and rather disconnected from reality. All her life, she’s been able to have anything she ever wanted, because her parents could afford it and wanted to see her happy. She’s also been taught that if she wants something, to take it, but this only applies to opportunities of course. Somehow though, in her stange, twisted little mind, Regalia took all of this to mean ‘if you see something you want, even if it isn’t yours and already belongs to someone else, you can take it’, so she does so regularly.
She started small, taking nice pencils and pens and the like from her fellow classmates without them noticing, and sneaking classroom decorations she thought were pretty. When this went well, she graduated to taking things out of her classmates unattended bags, stealing figurines and ornaments from friends’ houses, and pinching things from shops.
At first, all of this went unnoticed, because who’d suspect the rich kid with everything to be stealing things? And, besides, Regalia was incredibly good at being sneaky about everything as well; she was rarely caught in the act, and could always explain herself out of it if she was. Deep down, some part of her knew it was wrong, but a larger part of her honestly didn’t care; she wanted those things, so she was going to have them. After a while, though, Rarity started to notice that her daughter’s room was beginning to fill up with things she’d never seen before, and did some investigating. She didn’t find anything concrete, but she found enough to get her suspicions up, and kept a close eye on Regalia from then on.
Regalia was smart though; she knew her mother was monitoring her, so she dialed down the antics unless she really really wanted something. This worked rather well, as Rarity was soon convinced of Reggie’s innocence, but then Realia went and spoiled it all by pulling off the heist of the century.
See, Regalia got her cutie mark later in life than most any other pony in history. It was almost as if the fates had looked down on her and gone ‘oh lordy, please let her be good at something else’, and withheld the mark from her, before finally shouting screw it and giving up. Why would the fates do this? Well, Regalia’s talent is quite literally stealing; it’s the thing in life that she’s best at, and the thing she planned on relying on to get herself through life. She suspected this herself for many years before she actually got her cutie mark, but it was confirmed when the Canterlot Museum played host to Equestria’s largest diamond, and when Regalia stole it.
How did she do this? Well, madam had been to the museum with her parents to see the diamond when it first came to town because there was a gala fundraiser the night before the unveiling, and the family had been invited to it. The moment she laid eyes on it, she knew she had to have it, so she began to take note of security, the locations of entrances and exits and air vents, and the type of display case it was housed in. It took weeks of planning, never writing anything down so there was no trace of evidence (Regalia has a stupidly good memory), but eventually she had a plan; on the final night of the exhibition, a few months after it’s opening, a masked ball would be held in the museum as another gala-fundraiser. Regalia and her parents were in attendance once again, and our gal Reggie used a touch of glamour magic to disguise her appearance. She broke into the case without triggering the alarm, replaced the diamond with a replica from the gift shop (which she also stole), and hid it in an air duct as she conversed with the Princesses, who were also in attendance. The next week, she returned to retrieve it. The diamond was only noticed to be missing three weeks later, by which point Regalia had pretty much thought she’d gotten away with it.
The night she retrieved the diamond was the night Regalia got her cutie mark, and she’s incredibly proud of it. For a while, she wouldn’t tell anyone what it was for, then she switched to lying that it was to do with glamour magic, which she’d been practicing since the ball and had gotten pretty good at. When it got out that the diamond had been stolen, though, Rarity realised that Reggie had a remarkably convincing replica displayed in her room, went to investigate it, and found out the truth.
Needless to say, shit hit the fan, Regalia got arrested, and the house was searched for other stolen objects. Many were found, most coming from shops that had reported their good stolen, some belonging to family friends, and the rest from an assortment of museums, galleries, and exhibitions. The only reason Regie wasn’t thrown in prison on the spot was because she had an otherwise-flawless record, and her mother was an element of harmony. Regalia was made to return everything she’d taken, and to change schools.
Only she stole back everything she really wanted again within the week in a series of burglaries, which she was delighted to find were great fun.
When she was discovered (not caught, mind you; Rarity just happened to notice an antique clock hidden under her bed) she was nearly arrested again, but just ended up being sent to Luna’s School for Troubled Ponies. It is here that she carries on her life of crime as best she can whilst under constant observation. She’s one of the school’s permanent residents, as her parents live in Canterlot so making the journey every day is a bit much, and is a model student apart form the constant theft.
Relationships:
Rarity;
Rarity and Regalia have quite a close relationship, despite Reggie’s antics; they both like the same things, and are rather like-minded in many ways. The pair are both driven, intelligent, and hardworking, and they usually bring out the best in each other. Regalia even helps out in her mother’s boutiques on the regular, and has even designed and made a few outfits herself, but overall it isn’t for her. Regalia is a lot more into jewelry and accessories, so she usually deals with that aspect of the business. Or, she did before she was caught stealing. Oddly, Regalia’s relationship with her mother hasn’t actually been damaged all that much by the whole debacle; Reggie knew what she was doing was wrong so accepted the consequences, but has no intention of stopping, and Rarity was disappointed in her daughter when the scandal was brought to light, but knows that, deep down, Reggie is a good girl, and hopes she’ll stop all this cat-burglar nonsense.
Fancy Pants;
When Reggie was really little, she and Fancy used to spend a lot of time together; with Rarity being so busy with all of her businesses, Fancy was the stay-at-home dad, and he and his daughter used to do everything together. He taught her a lot about Canterlot and the ponies that lived there, and tried to teach her how to grow into a brilliant young mare. For the most part, he succeeded, and Regalia is perfect example of a well-behaved pony from a well-to-do family in every way apart from her tendency to take things that aren’t hers. As Reggie got more independent, though, she started to spend more time with Rarity, and her father started to spend more time with her brother. She and Fancy are still close, though, even despite the two arrests, because he knows she can be better and he still loves her and she still loves him. Regalia probably has the best relationship with her parents out of all the problem kids.
Her Classmates;
Before she was a known criminal, many of Reggie’s friends knew she was a thief, having lost many a precious object to her before. Of course, they didn’t know this for sure, but they had strong suspicions, so regarded Regalia with an air of caution. Ultimately though, they usually forgot about all of this when she was around, because she’s such a charming pony that she can make anything major seem trivial. After it came out that she was the thief they all suspected her to be, pretty much everyone turned on her. This didn't affect her much, though, because she was moved schools, where she made a while batch of new friends. In Luna’s School, not many ponies fully trust Reggie, but a lot are friends with her because she’s just so nice when she’s not nicking your stuff.
The Other Five;
You’re gonna have to guess this one until the story sorry lads.
~~~~~

Ah, Regalia, my ultimate fave of the bunch. I spent absolutely zero time debating how Reggie would be different form her mother, because she was one of the first one's I thought of, and she’s stuck that way. The opposite of generosity is selfishness, and this girl here is pretty damn selfish. And, because just ‘being selfish’ isn’t something that’ll land you in a school for troubled kids, I turned it up to 11 and made her a burglar! Isn’t character design fun? Seriously though, I’m so pleased with how this girl turned out, you don’t even know.

Now, Rarity and Fancy Pants is one of those really old ships that people had ages ago when straight ships were al the rage and there were only about seven named male characters in the show. I’ve never been too much of a fan of it, if I’m honest, but it fits here, as I’ve always thought Fancy Pants seemed like a rather generous soul. I originally wanted Fleur to be Reggie’s other parent, but we don’t really know enough about her (suppose we don’t know anything much about Fancy either but oh well) so I went with the other posh horse instead. I think Rarity and Fancy pants would be good parents, and if they were raising anyone other than Regalia they would have done a good job.

I can’t think there’s anything else I need to add here now so I’ll see you next time, and I hope you all like this horrible, horrible person I’ve just drawn.

Same. I've had to put off working on it for a bit because I've had three deadlines in two days and I'm pretty much literally dead at this point, but it should be done very soon!
