Just uh... yeah.Bucc loved being read to as a child, especially when it was Sunset doing the reading because she did the best voices. Rainbow was also a brilliant story teller, but she had a difficulty just sitting still and reading the story, always needing to make it a performance of some sort which, of course, Bucc couldn't see, so couldn't enjoy properly. Sunset was much better at conveying emotion and expressions through her voice alone, which made the story a lot more engaging for Bucc.
As Bucc got older, their love of stories didn't diminish, nor did their love of somepony reading to them, so Sunset continued to be a dutiful mother and read bedtime stories and the like to Bucc long after most parents stop doing so. Also contributing to this is the distinct lack of braille books available in Equestria, so if Bucc wanted to read at all, they'd have to either track down a braille copy, or just grab someone to read to them. Usually Sunset.
That's how the two of them spent a lot of time together when Bucc was very young; Rainbow would take the older kids out to do something more suited to their age, and Sunset would read to Bucc when she needed a break from her research. Sometimes Glitz of Flashbang would also read to Bucc, but Glitz was always easily sidetracked, and Flash just... didn't like reading all that much, unless it was comics.

Hey have you ever thought that sunset shimmer was named that because she USED to be a magic student, twilight sparkle because she was more recent, and then starlight glimmer because she was twilights student?? A sorta timeline thing??

And I always just kinda thought names with 'sparkle' or 'shimmer' or 'glimmer' or 'twinkle' and stuff like that were more commonly used for unicorns because it represented magic in some way.
Unless you're on about the first part of their names like Twilight come after Sunset and Starlight (nighttime) comes after Twilight? In which case that's a really cool way of thinking about it! I've honestly never noticed that! Reckon that means the next magic student should be named after the dawn in some way?

Parallels innit. They name em all similarly so they can be like 'LoOk, ThIs iS WhAt tWiLiGhT CoUlD HaVe bEeN LiKe' more easily. It's the same reason they made Moondancer be just a recoloured Twilight as well.
Ignoring the meta reason for it though, maybe they all just come from powerful, traditional unicorn families and are given traditional unicorn names. Over the years, those who are part of these elite families have become very powerful, so the 'sky-something light-phenomena' names have become synonymous with powerful magic.
Who knows though. Maybe unicorns called things like Summer Bloom and Treacle Tart or what have you are just as powerful but opt not to pursue a magical career. Maybe the most powerful unicorn in existence is a little old mare called Satin Stitch who prefers to sit by the fire and knit socks than fight monsters

X3 true, but isn't starswirl the bearded the most powerful unicorn in equestria?? Sure they've added things on but it takes so much effort to make a base. (Not arguing just loving the fact there are people to geek out at with me X3 )

Ah right okay; yeah I think Starswirl like as not made the basics of the spell, as with many others, and then other ponies have expanded on them. To me as well it seems that only unicorns with magic as their talent even think really of creating new spells. Unicorns with more focused talents probably don't need as much complex spell work and just use what they already know
