Art by Kade Green, you won't find him on Deviant Art unfortunately, he's a relative (and also my martial arts consultant www.northaustintaichi.com/ )Occasionally he'll ask a friend or family member for an idea for him to try for his next painting. And this time he asked me.
The Nest Serpent is at top and is a pet/protector animal in the Greenwater books. It is a constrictor and considered rather affectionate. They are used to protect the nests of the various non-human races from scavengers and egg thieves, as well as just kept as a pet or general pest-control measure.
The Mal Viper is a magically engineered creature from ancient times that harbors an intense hate for all life and especially seems to enjoy attacking nests. Their poison produces insanity and death.

hadn't thought of that....I tend to consider the Mal's with a healthy case of shivering and revulsion at the concept...but I love the nest serpents
