This is really cute! I love how you outlined the hair, and the fancy hat is gorgeous! <3
Great shading on the face, too.

r u talking about diabetes?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thundercake In reply to petrichild [2008-06-19 20:17:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah.. it means that the colors are too sweet and sugary for my taste

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

petrichild In reply to thundercake [2008-06-19 20:32:11 +0000 UTC]

i'm diabetic. that is a very bad steriotype of diabetes. only one of the three types is concerned with sugar, and you can only get type 2 if you have a high quantity of fat in your blood.

thundercake In reply to petrichild [2008-06-19 23:04:34 +0000 UTC]

It's a common joke that things that are unbearably sweet or cute, like saccharine hallmark cards or little girls in strawberry shortcake costumes, give you diabetes. It's not meant to be scientifically accurate, and rest assured that I do not really believe that I got diabetes from using pink colors in a painting.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

petrichild In reply to thundercake [2008-06-20 04:08:13 +0000 UTC]

us with type 1 and type 3 take offense to that joke. just saying, you could get in a lot of trouble out in the real world. we take it as calling us uncontrolably lardy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thundercake In reply to petrichild [2008-06-20 05:03:48 +0000 UTC]

So...saying "this is so sweet that it gave me diabetes" is exactly the same as saying "~petrichild and every other diabetic is a huge fatty with no self-control"? Is that essentially your point?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

petrichild In reply to thundercake [2008-06-20 05:30:18 +0000 UTC]

yes. that's exactly how most of us take it.

thundercake In reply to petrichild [2008-06-20 06:45:35 +0000 UTC]

You're assuming that I'm making a broad, disparaging generalization against genuinely sick people because I jokingly implied that consuming too many glucose-related calories can be a factor in contracting a type of diabetes? An implication that is, for all intents and purposes, true?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

petrichild In reply to thundercake [2008-06-20 14:33:57 +0000 UTC]

actually...that's not how it works. for us TRUE diabetics, we focus on carbohydrates, not sugar. to tell the truth, most sugar free stuff have more carbohydrates than the same sugar loaded thing. the implication is that the only way to get diabetes is to eat tons of sugar and fat. type 1 and 3 are genetic, i didn't have to eat a lot of sugar to get it, in fact, i was a fairly athletic guy with a low sugar asiatic diet. which sucks because now i can barely have any rice at all (due to the high carb content).

thundercake In reply to petrichild [2008-06-20 15:21:37 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps you could tell me where I said the words "the only way to get diabetes is by eating sugar." I'm pretty sure I didn't even come close to saying that, ever, and that's entirely your bizarre misinterpretation at work.

That's like if I said "I fell over a curb and broke my leg" and you got mad because you happened to break the same leg in an auto accident and didn't want people thinking that it was possible that curbs could be even partially responsible for a similar injury.

You know what offends me? When people try to hurt my feelings. I don't waste my time getting my panties in a twist over meaningless, offhand, borderline surreal comments that weren't directed at me in the first place. If someone calls something "gay" I don't freak out. If someone jokes about women being bad drivers, I deal with it. You're going to have to develop a thicker skin and learn to pick your battles.

petrichild In reply to thundercake [2008-06-20 15:48:37 +0000 UTC]

'm not offended. i'm talking about our quarterback who got expelled when he gave someone a broken nose for using that turn of phrase.

i think it's funny. just don't like seeing people get hurt when i could easily warn them of the danger.

btw, i'm type 3 and it's not fully researched yet. it was just discovered 4 years ago (before, ppl just thought it was type 1)

and once again, "consuming too many glucose-related calories can be a factor in contracting a type of diabetes? An implication that is, for all intents and purposes, true?"
it's only one-third true.

thundercake In reply to petrichild [2008-06-20 16:16:23 +0000 UTC]

I said "a type of diabetes", not all types.

You don't need to warn me of anything, because the only type of person who would lash out at someone for such a minor slight is a totally imbalanced jerk that I'm not willing to censor myself for. Some people are just way too sensitive, and the only way that this culture is going to pull the politically correct stick out of its ass is if we don't pussyfoot around and apologize for everything.

when low blood sugar messes with our minds, we are some of the most unbalanced people alive. when high blood sugar messes with our minds, we are equally unbalanced and can easily reach the rage equivalent of an adrenaline rush. again, just warning you to not say that to a diabetic's face when they are eather.

i really like this picture, for the most part.

there's just one thing:
the blue. in her eyes, hat and collar. it's like a really musical mute, warm, harmonious scheme until BAM. y hallo thar neon blue!

but other than that, i dig the overall style. it's different.
