D³SCR!PTION
This one was actually intended to be a fantasy novel book cover. So i was going for a portrait setup... instead of a cinemascope one. Though i prefer the cinemascope crop. Whatever. There's actually no big story behind that pic. I started to work with some of my new mountain stocks which i got from a trip into the alps recently. Stitched together some photo elements and extended them with paintings. With lots of scifi stuff from me in the past... this pic should be a nice addition to my gallery. Since it's more fantasy based.

I guess you could call this thing a digital matte painting. I wouldn't do so. It's a strange mixture of pure painting and pure matte painting. Well i, at least, can tell that i worked a lot with matte painting techniques. The top of the mountain is a complete extension. The path in front is 80% painted. I did not work too much into detail on that path in front since too much detail would have stolen the show the background actually gives you. Again i tried lot of new things and i think i got a acceptable result.

Auf den ersten Blick hat mich das Bild in einen kleinen Zwiespalt gebracht. Diese große Spanne zwischen Realem und Gezeichnetem muss erstmal auf sich wirken lassen, denn irgendwie kann ich beides in diesem Bild nicht so recht zusammenbringen. Und doch bin ich wieder erstaunt was für eine einzigartige Landschaft mit wunderschönen Details du geschaffen hast. Ich weiß ich sage es glaube ich in allen deinen neueren Bildern, aber diesesmal muss ich es nochmal erwähnen, denn der (Sternen)Himmel und die Lichteffekte an den Wolken sind atemberaubend. So stellt man sich einen Sonnenuntergang vor, wobei in echt ist er natürlich unübertroffen (vorallem mit weiblicher Begleitung ^^).
Sehr großes Lob auch an die Blätter der Bäume im Vordergrund. Zuerst dachte ich wirklich, es wären echte aufgrund der Blätter, was sich natürlich beim zweiten Blick wieder als Irrtum erwies. Beim Blick auf die Details sah ich dann das auch die Blätter alleine nicht echt sind ^^
Was etwas schade ist und nur in den Details wirklich rauskommt ist der Mensch auf dem "kleinen Berg". Der geht leider etwas unter obwohl er doch so gut gezeichnet ist ^^
Nunja dass soll es dann auch gewesen sein.^^
Für mich wieder eine sehr schöne Landschaft auch wenn es nicht mein Lieblingswerk wird.

and.. how the heck do u manage all that detail, textures and everything?? it baffles me.. if i were to ever try and do something like this - it would be a very very bad photomanip - how'd u make everything so real?

well i shoot a lot of textures myself with my cam. i have a nice archive with footage from the alps which definitely helps me to do these paintings. of course there's a lot of manip work required and stuff... it's not like *bang* and there you have your picture. a lot of work.
