I know this is probably not what RoosterTeeth is going for. This is just fanfiction, sort of an alternative outcome of the finale of volume 5. AU. Not a theory!!!

How to get Emerald to work for Salem 101:
Emerald : "I dun wanna."
Salem: *clears throat* "Cinder! Cinder Cinder Cinder Cinder."
Emerald: "I'm listening."
So, this was the first installment for my new series.
DON'T WORRY! The next part of "A Broken Promise" is currently in the works and will be the next thing I'll post here.
Emerald is now the fall maiden and her villain potential is absolutely terrifying.
Her semblance will be greatly amplified by her new magic abilities, but the power won't protect Emerald's mind from her own illusions. The damage will be irreparable.
Salem pushed the "Cinder button" and there's no going back.
Hazel must feel sorry for Emerald. The big guy might be having second thoughts about bringing the girl in Salem's castle.
Mercury is not a happy boi either. He lost his boss and his colleague is tripping balls.
(If the room Em is staying in looks familiar, it's the same room where Cinder was recovering from her wounds after volume 3. )
This comic is a bit different from usual since I decided to go with subtitles instead of speech bubbles. I like how it looks, since I was really able to show all the details in the background without huge white blobs blocking the view.

Salem is indeed taking advantage of Emerald's weakened state. The poor girl is still feeling the aftermath of that giant illusion

I'm curious as to why we didn't hear Cinder hit the ground. Did she really die? If yes, Emerald is the most likely new Maiden. If not her... I can think of 2 people.
First, Cinder has been obsessing over Ruby for 2 seasons. Could her final thoughts be on that/her?
Second, Cinder supposedly got the last of Ember's Maiden powers because the fraction Cinder had drew the rest to them. Raven had part of her Spring Maidenhood sapped into Cinder. If that fraction returned to Raven when Cinder died, then did it drag along the Fall powers?

One point for Cinder being dead is that Raven turned her powers off. Humans have shown the ability to sense the auras of others as well as Grimm. If the Grimm arm died, and/or Raven could sense Cinder's aura die out, then that action might prove Cinder's dead.

I haven't seen a body. Cinder's alive. Hopefully with many broken bones.
Cinder was the Fall Maiden. When Maidens die, their powers go to either whoever was in their last thoughts or somebody random as long as they're female. When I see a new Fall Maiden, then I'll know Cinder is dead.

We also haven't seen Summer Rose's body. Her gravestone is just a marker since she's MIA for over a decade. And yet we just assume she's dead.
If Raven gained the Fall Maiden powers; would we see a difference? Other than that, a passing of the powers will prove Cinder's dead, I'll agree.

Yeah, we'll look back and laugh. Like back in Volume 1, when I told friends that Pyrrha Nikos, or Phyrric Victory, means that Pyrrha will sacrifice herself in a battle she can't win so that her friends can escape; and that she'd be taken down after a strike on her calf/ankle like Achilles who disguised himself as a woman named Pyrrha. Or how Jaune Arc, or Joan of Arc, would be the relief aid in a major battle involving a siege (on Haven Academy), and that Nora Valkyrie with the hammer would have Lightning Strength Semblance like Thor (who disguised himself as a female Valkyrie). Or during Volume 4 when I pointed out that, according to Salem's instructions, "Your [new Grimm arm] senses your dread. Make it dread you instead." Or during Volume 4 when this conversation happened: Qrow:"Where's Spring?" Raven:"I did what it took to protect my tribe," into Volume 5: where Raven didn't think it hypocritical to call out Fall the Fall Maiden yet announce Vernal (as if Vernal was a decoy), and how she wore her heavy mask (which could hide the eye glow) while Vernal (who didn't glow) didn't use any powers that were centralized to her. Or calling out Lionheart for betraying Oz (and the Wizard of Oz's full name has the initials OZPINHEAD, with O standing for Oscar to make Oscar PINe).
Or when Oz told Pyrrha the machine would fuse their auras; similarly to how he told Oscar they shared memories because their auras combined. Right about the time when Ruby dreamed up the Pyrrha-Cinder Destiny talk; a memory that only Pyrrha and Cinder had and Ruby had 0 chance of learning out any other way than to directly have access to Pyrrha's memories.
I'll admit, this one's more of a stretch.
Or how the lyrics of Neon answer Dream Come True with uncanny parallels and lyrical references, as if Neon was instead talking to Pyrrha about how she'll soon become a has-been and Neon might take the place of Jaune's new fan shipping partner.

Oh wow, this is one heart-breaking moment after another, and Salem is capitalizing on Emerald's thoughts of Cinder to push her in the "right" direction. (which I agree with your Salem 101)
Hazel is clearly having second thoughts about working for Salem...and not to mention Mercury isn't also happy about his working partner currently having an emotional breakdown of sorts.
While I can't discount that Emerald MIGHT be the next fall Maiden, this is a terrifying possibility to contemplate about.
True...the illusions would be off the scale, and I wonder if Emerald would be immune to her own illusions.

I know, right? Salem wanted to step in right after Emerald woke up, and without any influence from Merc or Hazel.
Mercury and Hazel will have to make a heartbreaking decision later in this story....
I feel like those two are going to form a father-son / mentor/assasin bond of some sort.
Yeah, I have no idea what Rooster Teeth is planning for volume 6, especially for the villains.
But like you said, this is going to be terrifying.
In this story, Emerald won't be immune to her own illusions. She is becoming more and more unstable
as her semblance grows stronger. Bad news for the heroes. And for Emerald herself.

Oh dear, that ain't good, and this won't bode well for Emerald either.
I doubt Cinder is dead...I hope. I didn't know either, I hope it's good. Yeah, I am right, and I fear for the events of Volume 6 when they go to Atlas. True, I don't doubt that about the illusions.

Also nice idea. I think Cindy may've thought of dear ol' Em in the last moments... But don't rule her out as DEAD yet. Knowing Cindy(and every villain ever), No body, not dead.

Yeaaah this is not going to end well, I can tell you that much. Emerald is becoming a bit... unstable, and I will show exactly how her mental state will continue to deteriorate
as she takes her semblance to a whole new level.
I know that. I doubt Cinder is dead.
That's why I'm making this AU series in the first place. A "what if"-scenario that I think is worth exploring.
