Description
In 1946, a communist revolt began in French Indochina after a period of in wich the French rule had grown more and more repressive. The Viet Minh under Ho Chi Minh fought against the French aswell as cooperating Vietnamese forces under the puppet emperor Bao Dai for several months, when the League of Nations decided to directly intervene in the war on France's behalf. The CommIntern was asked for help by the Viet Minh, but they were still supporting the communists in China under Mao Zedong who in winning a civil war, aswell as winning over Korea from Japanese colonial rule and were thus not able to assist apart from material and propagandistic aid. Japan had refused League assistance in Korea, so it's forces were able to freely intervene in Vietnam. After two years of fighting, Bao Dai stepped down from the throne, and the French officialy ended colonial rule, both under pressure from the Leauge of Nations. A new pro-western government under Ngo Dinh Diem could therefor claim legitimacy and was able to rally substantial public support against the Viet Minh, who were defeated one year later. Remaining communists fled to China, Ho Chi Minh among them.

Ngo Dinh Diem established a tight Boulangerist rule over the now united country he named the State of Vietnam.
