Olivia & Slick, talking to Kato

I have half of a bio written up for Slick for when I manage a proper ref for him, and he's got the most WIP writing out of Gen 2--but I felt compelled to post this, even though it's just a sketch. I've alluded to it in a couple other pieces I've posted, but I wanted to briefly babble about Kato's "adopted son."

Slick's father is reminiscent of Kato's: Controlling, stern...prone to scolding, yelling, belittlement...and seldom an expresser of love or affection.
Slick suffers, and Kato notices--even without Olivia telling him her friend's secrets, Kato sees so much of himself in the sullen kid his daughter brings by; this blue-eyed boy who has thrown away his birth name and stains his wrist. Slick spends more and more time over, and Kato bonds with him, bit by bit, as Slick opens up. And Kato and Willow agree, and tell Slick as much: If you ever need to, you can grab your cat and come here, home, to us.

Eventually, he does. I have writing about it to finish, and I'll get there. But for now, have this: The fact that the angry kid who grew up deprived entirely of his own father's love manages to be not only an amazing dad by blood...but earns fatherhood, too, as a title to be bestowed.

Slick does eventually, when he's 18ish or so, make some sort of amends with his birth father...but it ends up like that: His father is his father. But Kato is, and stays, his dad.
