Description
Not all creatures in these endlessly stretching woods are harmless, with a slight touch of madness. Camouflaging yourself as a horror, which quite a number of discovered species do, would only work if there actually were some creatures that look both horrifying and have a fearsome, life threatening behavior. This creature here is called a Skull Collector and it has earned it's name for a reason. Skull Collectors don't reproduce, they expand and continue to do so until they eventually split. To expand their bodies, they suck out the life-energy of human heads like how the roots of a tree gain minerals from the ground.---------------------------------
I made this drawing in search of a better way to do digital paintings. I've been experimenting a bit with different brush techniques and made this painting based on what I learned. Though it can still improve in many ways. All critics are welcome. Let me know what you think about it

Love this! The framing of the dark grass bleeding into the dark background is great! Awesome mood

Thank you very much! I consider atmosphere and mood to be essential parts of a drawing, so I'm glad you like it

Okay this is awesome. I liked the creature design to start, but I loved this much more as soon as I read your story about it. I love the way you wrote it and that concept; an otherwise harmless area with something horrifying in it. It's really cool. You drew it well, to boot.

I'm glad you like it that much! I usually come up with the description after I draw my concepts. It took a while before I was content with it though, and I rewrote a few sentences (since I'm not much of a writer, so it takes a bit of time before I've got something I can say I'm content of)
But anyway thanks for the comment and the fave!

Wow! I'm really liking the new techniques!
The lighting looks awesome!
And it's kinda cool there are so seriously frightening creatures in the forest.

Thanks
I figured since I want to become a concept artist after my study, that my digital drawing as well as my technique in general should be a lot better. I tried to work a lot cleaner (than usual) while still leaving some rough lines. I made him without the background first, and later on I added some shading in a separate layer. My first shot at just coloring him were total disasters. If you see those things, it's very hard to imagine that this would be the result.

Yeah, it's good to leave some roughness.
And to have some parts really clean.
I can never decide on what to leave rough.

It's strange really. It takes a lot more time and practice to make everything perfectly clean. But for some reason I just like seeing some rough brushstrokes a bit here and there

Yeah, it gives it a nice contrast. And I think you can really focus peoples attention if you know what you're doing with the roughness.
