In the starwars game I ran for my friend, I played my character Angel as my GM PC.
She was there to make plot happen and steer the players the right direction. As such, she was also the leader of the elite team. Not because she was better than them or anything... we actually ran this campaign like Leverage meets Starwars. If you've never seen Leverage, it is a show about an elite team of ex-cons led by a super-smart ex-insurance guy who happened to not be a criminal. They basically help the needy and ruin powerful bad guys.So Angel here is the brains of the operation (perfect for helping plot along), but is also a marksman!

There IS something about Angel and Mitts that they get along real well every time they are in the same team, be it City of Heroes, D&D, Starwars, and what have you.
