This was inspired by Amanda Palmer’s song Runs In The Family, from her solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer.

The woman has a voice. A unique voice. Thin, yet powerful where many voices aren’t. It CANNOT be ignored as it spikes out, reds and oranges sharply slashing around the air.

Warm colors are her vocals. I chose to use the line the song title comes from as the main thread, starting in halfway up the left side, moving right, the line “I say it runs in the family,” -return to the start- ”family that carries me, to such great lengths”

The continuation of the line starts at the bottom left again moving right and up, “to open my legs up to anyone who’ll have me.”

The gashes coming from the edges are from the moments when she repeats three syllable phrases, like “Fill me up.”

The background music is piano and from my view, it’s there to provide a tempo for her voice, a cadence for it to follow as it slashes wildly, up and down and up and down, vividly colored, almost out of control.

This is one of the first paintings I’ve ever done, and I THINK it worked, but like I keep saying in my updates, I need to get better. There are so many things I could have done better here, but overall, I think this is better than it would have been in another medium.

*Sidenote: You can’t see this because there was no way for the scanner to pick it up, but the background is done in matte, and the the vocals in glossy paint, to make them stand out even more.
