Description
For a character development assignment. I've always found the BrontΓ« sisters fascinating, writing what they did when they did. Emily, authoress of Wuthering Heights, interested me in particular, for although she was very family and animal oriented, she was a private person with no friends. Dying at thirty also ensured there would be a sense of mystery about her. I tried to bring that isolation, creativity, fragility, and gentleness into the image.I'm horrible at mixing my colors, so her gown and the shadows became a big purple travesty. Playing with the color balance of the scan helped a bit. One day I will paint a convincing rock.

We'll never be able to see Emily's face, like in your painting. She remains wrapped in mystery. She is dreaming, lost in her own interior world with, of course, animals and nature. Your work is really lovely and accurate.

Is that Keeper there, too? Wonderful painting of an amazing genius! ^_^

It is! You know, it was so long ago I'd forgotten her dog's name. Thank you!

Great job. I love the one wisp of hair that's escaped from the back of the bun and blowing in the breeze. I'm also quite fond of the balance in the composition (all those nifty triangles).

Thank you very much. Nothing's moodier than a Bronte on a moor!

Emily Bronte is a fascinating subject but I'm sorry to say that this picture actually reminds me of Beatrix Potter with her water colors

I think this is gorgeous! The fact that you hid her face gives her mystery, but the dog adds a sense of friendliness. The windswept look adds loneliness to her. And your colors are great!

This is absolutely gorgeous - Emily Bronte has always fascinated me, and you brought out her character so well with your colors, and the movement of wind in this piece. Stunning.
Bravo!

Thank you, Mandy. It was important to me that it look at least somewhat classical for the subject, but my watercolor skills are still pretty limited. *lol*

Very moving. I think you really achieved your goal in giving it a feeling of isolation and mystery. I agree the Bronte sisters are extremely interesting. I've always found their story quite sad.
Thumbs up!

Have you seen the recent BBC/Masterpiece Theater adaptation of Jane Eyre?

They're doing one? That's good news! Although I don't know if anyone could top Timothy Daulton as Mr. Rochester...

BBC and PBS
[link] [link] It says on your page you're from Canada, I think so I don't know if it'll play there on television. I only know where they play it in the US or UK.

No worries, we get PBS from the States. I love Masterpiece Theatre, but I never remember to watch it.
