Well, I was partly right. It's Japanese inspired lol. I took one look at it and thought of Princess Tutu though I knew it wasn't from that. Awesome piece, btw.

actually Hiroyuki Morita directed this film, thats why the style is a bit different to the other ghibli films

I honestly need to see this movie. It's such a shame I never heard of it until recently.
My whining aside, you accomplished much with the coloring, particularly with the shading. The way the shadows taper away at the edges gives a good illusion of fur, especially on the big guy in the back. The lighting adds nice depth as well by emphasizing what you wanted us, the viewers, to focus on (i.e. the faces).
The leaves distract a bit, but they're blurred, so they're not that much of a problem.
My favorite part would have to be the faces. Their emotion is plain as day here. And I love how their eyes appear to line up in a line, almost like they're in sync with each other's thoughts and feelings about the same thing.
