Description The character in this scene is 's Kel. A Golden Eagle Animalfolk whose play style is most definitely as a non-combatant.

Rather...she's investing this particular character into another style of play, which focuses on character growth, adventure, and relationships with other characters that doesn't have to include constant battling. It's difficult to not see that, even as a combatant, knowing how huge a world Cauldron truly is.

At this stage tho? She'll eventually get a few Friend Followers, but this is when she's first starting out! With her first Fast Travel trip to a new island...

The design for the Ornithopter in question is from here.  img.scryfall.com/cards/large/f…

-----------------------------

Ornithopters

On Cauldron, ocean-faring boats are largely useless, since there's not enough safe ocean to travel on. What with them floating in the sky and all. However, there ARE air currents that flow between Kingdom Islands. Winds that reliably flow to and from Kingdoms, safe from the elements and turbulence that the rest of the skies possess. It is with these air currents that various flying animals migrate to other Kingdoms. And...it has allowed Cauldron's people to establish trading routes. So long as they had any machinery handy to fly in these currents to begin with.

In the past, this was accomplished by various methods. Flying Mounts. Dirigibles. Elvish Samaras, grown from Yggdrassil before its burning. Even Broomsticks, Magic Carpets, and Flying Kites! However...as the Elvish Empire had fallen, destroying as many modes of transportation as it can to prevent its slaves from leaving...various races had gotten together to build a new way to fly the skies, for new days.

That's where the Ornithopters came in. Proposed by the Birdfolk, and built by the Gnomes and Dwarves, they are, nowadays, the most ubiquitous method of modern air travel. They come in many different shapes and sizes, but they are all distinguished by their wings, which allow them to fly like birds.

This particular model is rather like the flying version of a bicycle. Not too many materials needed to produce, lind of expensive to buy, but easy to rent, to fly between islands! There are pedals, which help flap the wings, but along the air currents, one only needs to paddle for a short time before letting the wings glide through the rest of the air current.

------------------------------

This occasion though...Kel decided to fly just a little higher than the current. The rest of the skies weren't especially perilous today, and she had her safety pack ready in case.

Just this once, along the way...she flew a little higher than the rest.

-------------------------------

And she can see it.

Yay~!

It kinda took me some time to get the exact anatomy of the Ornithopter down, but so glad I did!

Plus, Thopters are starting to become one of my favorite designs for winged Flying Machines. XD

Oooohhh...I could very easily see a sort of tramway network functioning well too, for common methods of aerial transportation!

In mind, I'm seeing something kinda like say...this.  www.miamitodaynews.com/wp-cont… But different.

Essentially, one that relies on wires, cables, and Lightning Magic to function. Although it's held by four directions, boxing it into a "frame-way" so it doesn't sway all over the place, and it travels only to local Kingdoms. But it does this very well. Each station might even have a sort of "Lightning Rod" that re-charges the trains, allowing them to keep up maximum speed.

...it'd get scary if they ever got stuck tho. @_@

At least that's how I see an Inter-Kingdom tramway working!
