Description FOIST OF ALL, credit to D&D's Monster Manual (3rd Edition, which I've had since childhood) in supplying the pic above. I just kinda needed it for dissection purposes, because well...I truly do appreciate D&D. While I only include stuff from it sparingly into FantasTech, I had the idea of making creatures classified as "Abberations" have...a bit of a different backstory.

Not as beings from the Underdark, or the products of some dark sorcery.
No...merely innocent alien beings driven mad by their stay on a planet that hates them.

The people known as the Chuul are one of them.

------------------------------------

Throughout most of the cosmos, the Chuul are known as brave warriors in shining armor. From their home planet, they have used their neural linking ability to ride to greatness, domesticating almost any beast that challenged them. In later years, they've used these same neural claspers to sync their bodies up to powerful weapons, effectively making them a part of their own bodies. What a force they are to be reckoned as physical AND ranged combatants!

And yet their inspiring militant pride has taken a blow, as one of their more famed crews had found themselves stranded on Cauldron. Some hostile backwater where there is little tech left. No way to escape. No hope that help would come.

Here, they can never be heroes again.

They can only hide from the eyes of Ziz as they lose their culture and sanity. Only scrounging up enough technological means to build weapons and armor, but not much else. Only able to look up at the spoiled children of Ziz, and seethe.

Some day...some day the Chuul might take back what's been stolen from them.

-------------------------------------

OTHER FACTS:
- They DO still have...SOME tech left. Not enough of it to make a stable civilization. And as time and generations drag on, the older generations are starting to forget how to use them.

- They're hermaphroditic. And their sex organs are contained in what LOOKS like a head to us.

- They use said sex organs to attack. Between couplings, the "paralysis injectors" are used to relax their "throats" so one may insert an ovipositor into the other.
Buuuut if injected into people, it causes them to go into anaphylactic shock.

- On the other hand, they use their pheromone tongue as a feeding appendage too. I.e they dip it in their food like a tree root, and break it down, to absorb all the goodness before letting it seep directly into the stomach.

- They're...not a water-dwelling race. The planet they come from just has so much oxygen that they absorb it through their skin. Upon falling onto Cauldron, they had to use outdated Gengineering tech to mod their epidermis, so it retains water. Quite some time before they forced their bodies into developing lungs, which killed off some of their population.

- One reason they're confined underground is because it's too damn bright out! Their eyes are designed for a planet that's so utterly fogged over, their sun's blotted out. Sooo they have to induce the pinhole effect on themselves just to see properly.

- Also, they don't fight like slow, lumbering animals. They can parry. They can dodge and counter. They can roll. Sometimes they even bear shields. As much of their ways have been lost, they won't forget how to fight anytime soon.
