Description
So quite clearly from a whopping THREE pixel sprites for fan enemies for the Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (well now it's 4) I really like this game, lots of people do. It's fun, the game-play takes an eternity to get old and over-all it's really pretty to look at. It's obvious that Edmund and the team put a lot of effort and time into this beast of a game and BY GOD they must have. However, one primary flaw I thought of pointing out would be how the first experience of the game would go.Of course, any one who played to original Binding of Isaac before Rebirth/Afterbirth who instantly know how to play. But any one completely knew to the game or has not played it in so long would either forget or kinda struggle with learning the game's mechanics. A primary example is in the starting room of Basement 1 when you start a new game and it may show the pictures of some of the activities you can do which are walking, using items, shooting and activating bombs. But for some reason, unlike the original game, it doesn't show the keys required to press on order to do those tasks.
I understand the whole purpose and adventure of the game is to fail a bunch of times, learn from them and always try again. It's what prolong's the game play and creates a real learning experience for the player. Despite this, I feel the game needs a TUTORIAL MODE!
The item is this. In the menu just before you start a run and you decide weather to play Normal mode, Hard mode or Greed mode (if you have the DLC). Well then there's a forth game-mode called Tutorial mode. In Tutorial mode, Isaac wonders through a total of 3 floors filled with really pathetic and easy enemies to fight, like the ones shown above. Isaac gets only 1 item through-out the entire game play which is seen at the start of the 3rd and final floor. Otherwise, Isaac fights with normal stats depending on what character he plays as. The bosses at the end of floor 1 and 2 are not actual bosses but instead super tuff enemies as follows:
1 Oob,
2 Blue Conjoined Fatties,
1 non-boss Gurgling,
2 Dingas,
1 Cenotaph (new enemy which will be explain later),
or 6 Blue Gapers (you know, the ones summoned by Hush).
As for the final floor it's basically any boss encountered on The Basement such as Monstro, Pin, Rag Man, etc.
Now on to the actual content presented.
Enemy 1.) Eligarf.
In the top left corner of the sprite sheet is the Eligarf, an incredibly weakened version of the Gaper. He is slow and has 2 HP meaning he practically dies in 1 hit. He doesn't have a chance to spawn Pacers or Gushers when killed and is thus one of the least difficult enemies of the game. They're found on Floors 1 and 2 of Tutorial mode but can also be found in The Chest in a large room lay-out surrounding each of the doors as a MASSIVE armada. Lastly, their name, if you couldn't guess, is "Fragile" backwards.
Enemy 2.) Totem.
Next to the Eligarf is the Totem, a stationary enemy which deals contact damage and shoots short ranged blood shots at Isaac on occasion. However, they are very slow when it comes to attacking. They have to ready for a few seconds before shooting and during which they can be stopped by attacking them. Totems have 3 eyes and for every 3rd of their health depleted, one eye hollows out, leaving a bleeding socket. Totems can however regenerate their eyes over time and only when they have all 3 eyes do they become able to shoot. Totems have 10 HP and are found in all 3 of the Tutorial floors. Upon death they leave behind a broken stump with crumbled rock around it.
Enemy 3.) Hatch.
Hatches are trapdoor-like enemies found on the first two floors of the Turorial only. They are un-killable until they open up, revealing two red eyes in it's dark undeneath, upon which Isaac can inflict damage. Hatches can only deal contact damage and act as down-graded versions of the Host enemy. They have 20 HP.
Enemy 4.) Louse.
(Right beneath the Hatch enemy sprites) Louses are bizarre, static enemies. They deal contact damage but their main ability is to pull a strange face and teleport the player to a random chunk of floor in the room. This can make them rather annoying and difficult to kill as their attacks are some-what unpredictable as is where in the room you'll end up in. Louses have 2 HP and die in virtually one hit as well.
Enemy 5.) Effigy.
Taking up the majority of the right side of the sprite sheet is the Effigy, a wooden variant of the Homunculus enemy. Effigies act identical to Homunculi and Begottens but they can not detach and are harmless provided the player doesn't venture too close. Effigies are found in all 3 Tutorial floors and rarely in a custom I AM ERROR room lay-out along side 1 Begotten and 1 normal Homunculus. Effigies have 40 HP. Originally I was going to call them Dummies (like "Training Dummy") but I decided to go with "Effigy" instead.
Enemy 6.) Cenotaph.
Lastly, around the bottom left corner of the sprite sheet is the Cenotaph. Cenotaphs act as both bosses for either the first or second floors of the Tutorial but also as a normal enemy in the third floor and in Necropolis. They attack by speedily floating around the room and opening up their mouths to spawn either 2 Eligarfs or 4 Attack Flies. This is the only attack the Cenotaph has but his speed can still be rather threatening. The Cenotaph has 80 HP.
Something else you may have noticed is the text and symbols in grey seen at the very bottom. Well you know the previously mentioned pictures seen on the ground in the starting room of Basement 1? Well these are kinda like that, there's the ones for controls, the one for the first room where enemies spawn and the one for the room in floor 3 containing the item.
Now here're some last features I want to point out. Floors 1 and 2 have the same textures as Bedrooms and are called "The Room" and Floor 3 has a whitish, bland tint as is called "The End". Another thing is that all special rooms like Shops, Treasure rooms and Arcades are non-existent in this game mode with the exception of Secret Rooms and Super Secret rooms which will still have the chance of granting items. The only item Isaac is meant to obtain and for free is at the beginning of the third floor. Completing boss rooms gives an eternal heart along with normal heart drops but no actual item. Finally, other enemies that are actually in the game can be found on the Tutorial's floors.
The Room:
Fly (regular ones),
Nerve Ending,
Gaping Maw.
The End:
Greed Gaper,
Stone Eye,
Skinny,
Horf.

P.S: Does anyone find the Effigy cute but creepy at the same time?
