Thought I'd give the manly men (and my husband) a break and try drawing kids. It's not that I haven't drawn them before, but I've always had a direct reference to copy from. This time, I attempted to interpret Toon Link in my semi-realistic style and I used multiple references to help me construct the face. I'm so used to drawing adults and children have different proportions, so even if I am exaggerating some features I have to be careful... so many moments when the voice in my head was saying "so... you know what you're doing?" and I was like "lol no... shuddup, brain!"This "Toon Link" is non specific and reps all the Toon Links since they all kinda look the same. His shield though is from Wind Waker, which I thought appropriate at this moment considering Ninty is re-releasing that game for Wii U.
I tried to create an ethereal kind of atmosphere - random fairy to suggest maybe Link's just dropped by a fairy spring in some cave

I'm not sure what it's called but I guess it's like imitating painting in real life - which is what I actually do by applying the same principles as I would with real brushes (I make custom brushes that are actually similar to my real brushes)

Hi there~! I found you by Random Deviant and I had to comment on this one.
I've seen a lot of fanart for the Zelda series and I have to admit that I don't usually see younger Link represented as much. It's almost refreshing (even though I prefer seeing him older) because so many of the games state that he is a kid. Your style here is really nice too, although I kinda wish it was a full piece because something of the way it crops makes my brain confused as to proportions? Maybe, I'm not sure if I'm just seeing things or just craving action! Heh.
Either way, thanks for sharing this and I can't wait to dive further into your gallery~!

hehe the funny perspective is cause you're supposed to be seeing him from a top down view, but it could also be because I'm not really used to drawing child proportions and some might be off XD

that part made me lol'd. But yeah, i know that scenario anywhere. Every time I draw something new or totally out of my comfort zone, there's this little voice i hear saying " WTF are you doing?, thats not how it suppose to look, just stop drawing, or don't show this, it sucks...." I try to ignore it with the best of my ability, and keep drawing/practicing. After all, that's the only way to better your skills right?
Now, onto this drawing. I'll say that you seemed like you knew what your doing. I love how you make WW Link look ( along with your other works ) real while giving some features that still resembles his "cartoony" self. My favs of this piece would have to be his eyes and hair.
He just looks so adorably innocent!

true dat XD Every time I try to attempt something new, I get scared and nervous that I might ruin it, and never draw it or just procrastinate. ( especially on drawing male characters ;-; )

To tell the truth, it was only 2 years back that I couldn't draw male characters - I had been drawing anime/cartoony girls all my life and I had to force myself to learn and develop this semi realistic style as well as get used to male proportions. So it's just a matter of practice and you're right, one never stops learning!
