Part of my sketch example series. Drew Link coz he's one of my "easy" to draw characters. Bit messy what with trying to get the hilt of the Master Sword relatively correct :SBall point pen on paper - 10 mins

For body proportions, I study from references and I like to keep mine closer to real proportions these days but with more practice, you'll get the hang of the ratio and you can adjust it to suit how you like it

Wow! Every one of yyouor draws of Link amazes me more and more than the last one! I have a technique question. when you draw him, do you draw his face, hair or eyes first? I can never really line them up right. (fellow semi-realism artsist here, so I also make more grooves in the face rather than simply the cheek-bones)

I always start with the eyes when it comes to the line art, but as a rule of thumb, I set everything up together - I start with the head outline and I space everything to proportion

Ah, I see. Lately I've been having issues with drawing faces. Well, cheek bones. I make them too baby-ish (like my own) and on characters like Link, It looks silly because the rest of him is very detailed, but those cheeks make him appear "chibi-ish."ย

Just keep up the practice - not like anybody can get it right the first time especially if you're learning.ย It does takes lots and lots of patience but you'll get there eventually

Only because I sketch a lot with pen and I have a tendency to draw either Link or Vega heaps so I'm used to it ^^

Hi. I'm a first-year student in college studying digital media arts. I have a character illustration assignment that requires me to ink out an artist's rough sketch in Illustrator. I admire your artwork and this is something I'd love to ink out for my assignment.
