Here is some of the rough sketch work that I did while developing the character Benwolf for the Cartoon Network Studios program Ben 10.BEN 10 and all related characters are trademarks of and © Cartoon Network.

Design one, design four and design five look great. The centaur's front legs and back legs should be larger and longer that way they can hold the weight of the upper body. That's kind of like how a Mermaid would need upper leg bones to support the weight of the upper half.

What I allways wanted to ask... his mouth... is this based on John Carpenters "the thing"? The moment where the dog transform and his head split open?

Actually it is just a coincidence. I have never scene The Thing. I was just trying to think of an odd way to make an alien structure to amplify his sonic powers.

Really? Wow, cause thats a big coincidence, you know, horror theme, dog-like alien, split mouth. Well okay, thanx for the quick answer, allways wanted to know since I have first seen him. ^^
And if you find the time, watch John Carpenters "the thing", is a great horror movie, with great atmosphere and a really scary monster, they also made a preqeul in 2011, but the prequel is more action like.

Yeah... it happens. I confess I am not a big Horror movie guy.... even though I like to draw beasties. The thing about design is that enough similar influences can influence similar results.

Benwolf was my favorite! I wished they had used that character more.

This quickly became my favorite ben 10 alien when I was watching the show (along with upchuck), great work really! I miss this style in the show. The aliens had more vulnerability (ripjaws and greymatter anyone?) instead of the overly polished new ones that try to out-due the classics that made the series memorable. The early stages in the design really bring that out, kudos to you!

While I do find the final Benwolf charming (in terms of design) I do have to admit I like number 3 and 5 quite a bit as well

As much as I like the final version as seen on TV, i'd honestly prefer that they had gone with the black and white one shown here. Great art!

Benwolf and all his details were designed by me. Complex jaws and all. These were all options I developed for my bosses to choose from.

Sweet! It's a very cool design detail. Helps make it feel alien while still being wereolf-esque enough for the plot of the episode to work.

2 reminds me of a gerbil and 6 looks too cartoony to be taken seriously as a threat. 5 made me laugh

I actually like number 3 most. you hit the nail, i would say thats how an alien wolf should look like.

OH... you know benwolfs legs (original benwolf) are part of whats in my imagination.

I like all of them but 2 and 5. 2 looks almost nothing like a wolf, and 5 is too gentle looking.
