Slightly large image warning maybe?

Start SAI won't open!

Uhh...unless you can provide me with some more details, I can't really help you.

Did you put it in the same folder as SAI.exe?

I went into PAINTTOOLSAI
then I clicked on the BLOTMAP folder and Pasted the brushes into it.

Then I double clicked START-SAI and it said:

Can't Run SAI.exe and something about error 2.

Okay. Did you copy and paste Start-Sai into the same folder as SAI.exe? Or did you put it in the blotmap folder? It will only work if it's in the same folder as SAI.exe. It won't work if it's in a different subfolder.

If that's not the problem, then I don't know how to help you. Sorry

I absolutely cannot find those files. All I seem to have is a "Paint Tool Sai English Pack" folder in the start menu, and inside are the program and uninstall files. I cannot find anything else on my hard drive. :/

ToadsDontExist In reply to vickyjane [2011-12-07 01:29:52 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm...you said you checked your start menu? Did you try checking your C drive and program files?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vickyjane In reply to ToadsDontExist [2011-12-13 01:32:08 +0000 UTC]

Yes; in C, with hidden files visible, I find a "SYSTEMAX Software Development" folder holding a "SAI" folder in which there are two notepad documents inside ("bookmark" and "recent") but nothing else.

In my start menu, there is "Paint Tool SAI English Pack" in which there are two files, "Paint Tool SAI" and "uninstall".

I can't seem to find any of the directories that are needed for editing brushes and whatnot.

That's...strange. o_O I'm not quite sure how to help you then I'm sorry!

vickyjane In reply to ToadsDontExist [2011-12-13 05:05:11 +0000 UTC]

Welp. I figured it out. I opened "start-sai.exe" in 7zip, went up one folder, and ended up in the mystery folder containing all the files I needed. It was in a directory on C called "Zame", whatever that means... I never would have guessed it. Anyway, yay!

ToadsDontExist In reply to vickyjane [2011-12-13 16:08:09 +0000 UTC]

Well I guess that works!! xD That's generally my rule of thumb for troubleshooting, just wander around the C drive until something works. Glad you figured it out!

Yes, I use Notepad ++, which I believe is free and open source

Yephire [2011-08-14 09:15:15 +0000 UTC]

So you have to open start-sai.exe instead of that normal thing everytime since you installed brushes and textures...?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ToadsDontExist In reply to Yephire [2011-08-14 15:35:03 +0000 UTC]

Oh no, you only need to do it once after you install all your new stuff. Then you can continue using the regular SAI.exe. But every time you want to add a new texture or brush, you need to go through start-sai.exe once

Hope that helps!

liferaven In reply to ToadsDontExist [2011-07-28 01:55:28 +0000 UTC]

I dunno, I got a hacked version. There is a sai.exe, but it isn't in a folder

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ToadsDontExist In reply to liferaven [2011-07-28 04:47:24 +0000 UTC]

So do I

If there isn't a folder, where do you keep your SAI stuff? Can you take a screenshot so I can see?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

liferaven In reply to ToadsDontExist [2011-07-28 14:38:49 +0000 UTC]

Oh, wait, I think I got it! I had to put the brushes in the brushtex folder and instead of doing 1,blotmap\xxx.bmp I did 1,brushtex\xxx.bmp. It worked

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ToadsDontExist In reply to liferaven [2011-07-28 19:14:30 +0000 UTC]

That's really weird o_O Texture files (512 x 512 bmps) should go in brushtex. Oh well, if it works, it works!

Your SAI.exe is where it's supposed to be, so if you put Start-sai in that folder, it should work as well

Anyway, glad you got it working!

Gosh, this is so helpful Thank you so much!

Is there any way to make SAI brushes with just regular images (for example, I have photoshop brushes in .png format but there is white space around the brush images), or do they have to be filled squares with dimensions 256x256 like you mentioned?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ToadsDontExist In reply to Chercitia [2011-07-27 19:22:49 +0000 UTC]

Glad you find it useful!

Hmm. Well, Photoshop and GIMP brushes are different from SAI brushes - the former is created by the brush image getting dragged around the canvas, where SAI brushes create the brush shape by revealing the pattern in the brush image underneath the brush stroke (idk how to explain it )

So, if you have the original image that your Photoshop brushes were created from, you could make SAI brushes from that. Or you could brush around a 256 square canvas and then make it a seamless pattern, and then save that as a SAI brush.

Hope that helps!

Chercitia In reply to ToadsDontExist [2011-07-28 04:03:47 +0000 UTC]

I understand what you mean, I was thinking about doing that (dragging it around to make a full square xD). I guess that's what I'll try for a select number of brushes then.

Thanks for your help and the speedy reply! 8)
