Description This is an Apophysis script that makes flames like the one that you see in the preview or [link]

It's based on the principles taught in `Halcyon83 s rotational tutorial: [link] and `CygX1 's tube and wire tutorial:
[link]

I'd also like credit ~deepbluerenegade who gave me the idea to add the user input variables to make the script more versatile.

v2 bugs and fixes:
1. Added julian to forbidden variations in random tube generator to avoid creating large "stubby" tube transforms with no modifying variations.

2. If the user is missing one of the required plugins, transform 2 will appear blank in flames where the plug-in would have been randomly selected. If the user doesn't want to use the 3 plug-ins, suitable variations can be manually added to the blank transforms where required.

v3 fixes:
3. Script guru Fred (Fracscient) from FracFan Forum helped me come up with a way to enable repeatedly running the script without crashing it. Thanks Fred!!!
4. Fred also helped me work out a way to convert the tube size and tube variable generating subroutines into functions. This allowed me to set these parameters independently for different transforms, which translates to more variety for you. I also added more possible tube sizes for even greater combinations.
5. For the accent transform (transform #2), I added some random numbers to the dimension parameters in order to add more variety to the batches.
6. Molly (aka ~deepbluerenegade ) pointed out a flaw in the loop that generates the rotated linear transforms. This has now been fixed and there is no longer a gap between the tube transforms and the rotated copies.
7. I added a "Tips and tricks" note to the zip file that includes a link to the required plug-ins as well as some
tips and tricks that I developed to help beginners (or those of you who are new to rotationals) make the most out of this script.

8. I created a new cover image using this version of the script (plus a few of the tweaks mentioned in my crib notes). For those who really liked the original cover image, fear not - I will eventually upload a higher res version.

Happy Fractaling everyone!

Hello again ...well, I'm still having a problem: I've downloaded apoplugins.rar, then opened Apo- but it can't see the plugins...don't understand why. I've created the Plugins folder (inside Apo content, there are also renderings, Parameters and so on folders) and got all the plugin components in this folder...But-there's no result...Why it can be?
Julie.

Hi Julie

So the directory structure should look something like C:\Program Files\Apophysis 2.0\Plugins. The plugins should be placed in the Plugins folder as dll files. You don't need to include the other components in the download (I think that there are some text files also) in this folder, so I'd recommend removing them and putting them sometwhere else. Make sure that your Plugins folder is named Plugins and not plugins or PLUGINS or some other variant. Otherwise Apo won't find your plugins. The way that you can tell if it worked is that the new variations should appear in the variation tab of your transformation editor. If you can't get it to work, I've already created a customized version of the script to get it to run without the plugins. I'll note it to you if need be, but I'd prefer for you to be able to work out your problem with the plugins. They are quite the rage among the Apoholics and you will find life much more interesting with them

Hi! I'm a new one here, starting understanding Apo. I liked your script a lot, already downloaded it(thanks, but OO-OPS!!! There's a problem-I can't use it (Apo 2.08), don't understand -WHY? It sais :"unknown member identifier: "escher". Source position: 184,20" What does it mean??? If you know what' s the problem- please answer.
Thanks a lot, J.C.

The problem is that you're missing the plugins that the script requires. You can download them from here: [link]

You'll also need to create a folder named Plugins in your Apophysis directory. You put the dll plugin files in that folder, re-start Apo and you should be good to go. If not, note me and I can help you troubleshoot.

The bin file will do. I think that the src files give you access to the source code. I can't be totally sure because I've never downloaded them myself

Thanks for our answer...I've already found a problem. It was OK with not source file, and one more- the folder I created in my Apophsis directory was named wrong: "Plug-ins" instead of "Plugins", so that's why the program did't see them...Always was surprised, how can I be so unattentive....Well, I just can and I do))))))))))))))))))))
Thanks , Julie.

You're very welcome Julie! Don't be so hard on yourself about the naming of the folder. It seems to be a common enough mistake from what I've seen and something that would be easy to overlook. I'm just glad to have helped you find the answer!

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm Martha! To answer your question about the older versions of the script - there isn't any harm in keeping them although the new version pretty much does everything that they do (only better). Other artists have pointed out certain specific things that they could do with the older versions that you can't do with this one - so there may be some value to holding on to them - well at least for now...

BTW: If you want to be inspired by some excellent examples of rotational fractal art, I'm running a feature on ~SfinxMagnum s work at He's the artist who won the rotational WTC that you and I participated in at *Apophysis

You're very welcome Martha, I'm glad to be of help I've only recently put Andrei on my devwatch but have also become quite aware of the "insane" amount of posting that he does (really into Incendia these days it seems)

Yes I said somewhere in one of his fractal collections that now that he was going to "tackle" Incendia all his watchers will have to be on red alert for postings
As I told him once, it's a good thing that he is busy with his work, school, interviews, and something else apart from posting fractals of course.

ToAPP In reply to FracFx [2008-11-09 21:41:49 +0000 UTC]

This is actually a much more interesting question than I think you suspected TJ. The reason that the old version of the program would allow you to do this is that it always loaded (or attempted to load) the existing flames from whatever was showing in the editor window. This always worked out when starting from the Random batch - not so good when re-running Rototubes while the Rototubes batch was active in the window. This is because the script deliberately overwrites your Rototubes batches each time you run it (mostly to save you from piling up batches of flame flames). In other words the old version was always attempting to load flames from a deleted file causing the script to crash.

The way that the new version is set up, all of the new flames are generated completely from scratch just like the random flames are. While this makes perfect sense in the context of a batch generating script, I know that many fractalists like to modify pre-existing random flames rather than clearing and creating whole new batches. I'll see if I can come up with a suitable non-batch script that incorporate this option in the future (i.e., the way that *CabinTom does).
