Description Here is a tutorial showing the process of shoe painting that I use.
I hope you like it and find it useful! n_n

The final shoe: [link]

Notes:
1. You don't have to paint white shoes, you can just give any colour shoes a few coats of white paint as a base before doing the rest.
2. You don't have to use acrylic - fabric paint or permanent markers should work as well, this is just one method.
3. "I have a pair of high top chucks I did in Prismacolor markers. I found markers work well, then spray lightly over the top with hair-spray and it protects it. Again, can't get them wet though." From ~Girl-Of-Roses-Hanna

AWESOME !!!!
always had some idea of the steps.. I just needed to see it from someone else ! ;D !!
and needed something to know about lacquer ~ ;D !!

BTW...
does the lacquer work on shoe fabric, as in tennis shoes?

this is awesome! I've been planning to expirament abit on shoes and try to make a custom one but I dont have to expirament anymore Thank you this tut is awesome I just have one question.. are they washable and is varnish ok instead of lacquer?

I wanna be able to wash my shoes cuz I live in Egypt so there's a lot of sand and dust everywhere on the streets so its practically impossible to keep my shoes clean so im just wondering thanks in advance!

Hehe, sometime I get a little confused with words =_=;
In German it is "lack", which I think is lacquer in English. I think a varnish would also work, anything that is flexible.

I would be careful with washing and maybe just wipe them with a damp cloth very often, that would keep them clean, but I have walked through wet grass and the paint has not bled or come off

i've found that cheap hairspray works if you re-do it every once in a while like every six months to a year ^-^

i was really just trying to find a cheap alternative and then i found out the art department at my school used hairspray as a fixative on chalk pictures so i thought id try it for shoes and at 34p a can who can argue with re-doing it every year

What brand of Laquer did you use for these shoes? I just want to know because i've been searching for it all day but i can't find any that'll work with bedable materials. xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Toasts In reply to geothebio [2009-04-16 10:28:25 +0000 UTC]

I've been told that it's not actually lacquer but a varnish.
I've heard one artist swear by wood varnish. I'd go to your local hardware/home depot store and ask someone that works there for a matte, transparent spray varnish.
That's what I did, and it was fine C:

Great tutorial. If you're worried about how well the paints stick to the shoe or of peeling there are products that you can mix into acrylic paints that turn them into fabric paints. Smae great mix of colour without compromising on quality. n_n

Toasts In reply to DemoiselleDreamer [2009-04-05 20:22:02 +0000 UTC]

Yes, textile medium. However I have not been able to find any and I hear it only prevents fading. Otherwise, acrylic paint should stay and not crack on fabric. It is the problem of using paint that is not acrylic. I made that mistake n_n;
But yes, I recommend textile medium if you can find it, it is even better than normal paint! C:

My mum had some left over in her bag of goodies from when she painted. Suprisingly it still works perfectly fine. Don't know where ti buy it when I run out though.

Toasts In reply to kairiroxaslover [2009-04-05 20:26:36 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, plain white shoes is hard.
I used coloured shoes and then painted them white. I got shoes at GAP or New Yorker or H&M.
They have cheap shoes, and sometimes in white too! C:
