See Kishimoto. THIS is how you do it. THIS is how you developed female characters or any character for that matter. If they are flawed, you make them admit the flaw and have them improve. Not constantly bashing their head against the wall wondering why nothing is working.
You know why people hated Sakura? You know why some people liked Hinata? Because you refused to push the female cast beyond love interest? Hinata is nothing more than a sex symbol that rabid rabid fans wanted to bang.
"Sakura wasn't popular so I abandoned the concept."
That is NOT how you write characters. Don't listen to the fanbase. Don't listen to anyone. Just write the story you want to tell. You tried to please a particular fanbase and you failed. You failed hard because someone told you that you needed to make money rather than telling a good story.
NaruSaku should have been canon. SS and NH should never have existed. I hope future mangka never make the same mistakes you made.
Dr. Seuss was the same way. He didn't write what the people wanted him to write. He wrote what he wanted to write and that is what made him popular.

I always thought that Kishimoto was making excuses when he said he could not write female characters. I don't think Sakura was especially bad written ( at least until the ending where she became Sasuke's fangirl again ).
I'm afraid we'll never know if the ending was really planned from the beginning or it was changed later to please the fanbase...

I agree. Sakura deserved so much more development. And the fact he abandoned the Sakura concept is even more evidence that NaruHina was fanservice. NaruSaku would've been better for both characters imo. Sakura would show some self respect and grow by letting go of Sasuke, and giving the guy who's treated her best a chance. The fact that Sasuke was gone, allowed for Naruto and Sakura to develop a closer bond, and development that Sakura started changing her opinion about Naruto, not only as a friend, but as a potential partner. Where even Kishi said that Sakura was at conflict about how she felt about Naruto. Like even this scan, she realized that Naruto is hurting because of the promise, that she wanted to kill Sasuke to remove the burden off both her and Naruto. That's development that Naruto and Hinata did not have. Fanservice always ruins everything if it wasn't intended from the writers.

She would've been likeable to the general fandom honestly. I like her, but a lot of people don't which is stupid to me, but it is what it is. Her reflecting, and telling Naruto that she's been self ish about the Sasuke situation, and putting Naruto under a burden is one step to showing growth in her character. Her letting go of Sasuke would've been proof she's finally moved on, and has self respect and maturity. Especially if she gave Naruto a chance, since he's the one that's treated her the best out of everyone.
