Description
Solstizio Condor once lived in a land where humans and animals mixed freely, creating some of the most beautiful beings the blue planet has ever known. Born with an inability to die, Solstizio has roamed the earth on his own for many thousands of years while those of his kind slowly faded away; you see, humans created a world within a world where the rivers ran dark with impurity and the skies were filled with smoke. The planet soon became a graveyard, littered with the bones of those who died with tar on their wings and soot in their lungs. Solstizio Condor's kind were beautiful but they were also very fragile.Every year under the midway point of the sun in the summer sky, Solstizio gathers bones of those who passed during the winter and lifts them up to Mother Earth, invoking her kindness and asking her to be patient while humans learn to respect her again. Mother Earth then blesses the bones that Solstizio offers up to her and fills them with a colorful magic; a special place is indicated for each one so that it may then grow into a place of wonder and be a reminder to humans how beautiful the earth is.

From the series, this is my favorite. I love the pensive pose and the angle that makes Duma/Condor appear as if he is poised high above the world gazing down.
I love the colors.
Another beautiful collaboration, my friends.

Thank you. I love this one too. A lot. I feel like Duma fully became Solstizio Condor here. There are many other astonishing ones to come as I have time to go through everything and make choices and do editing. We did a lot of shooting out there this time over a period of three days.

another wonderful image; how do you imagine the costumes and body paint for these images - Duma is a great sport to cooperate with these incantations

The creation of these mythical characters is a combination of found objects on location where we're shooting and scarves and fabrics that I've been collecting for many decades. Last year in Colorado I began adding manila rope and copper wire to the mix. Solstizio Condor evolved organically and spontaneously as Duma and I were out there on the lake bed at Rozel Point. His crown is fashioned from a piece of rusted metal - the moment I saw it I knew where it was going. Pelicans that get their wings tipped with the fresh oil oozing up from the ground often die there so there are numerous bones in the area. I have a bag of scarves that go with me on pretty much every shoot. Each of the characters evolves from something special in the earth and in the particular area where we're working. Beyond that it's just allowing my creativity to flow freely. Choosing my models is a huge part of it all since none of this could happen without their complete surrender to and participation in the process.
