Description
Next:[link]NOTE: I spent a long time on this comic. If you may, I would really appreciate it if you could tell me what you liked/didn't like/how I could do better instead of just saying "nice" or something like that. EVERYTHING is Β© ME.
Whew! I finally got around to actually drawing and painting this comic about my little Leaf Creature named Earnest! (indirectly) thanks to . Seeing some great watercolor comics gave me the encouragement to do my own. This is just the first part, so stay tuned for more! (that is, once I go buy a new watercolor pad.)
I think I've mentioned that I use a lightbox nowβthat is, I took out a clear drawer from a plastic chest and tape my first paper on top and my watercolor paper on top of that, and I hold my desk lamp between my legs for the light while I ink it. It's a bit complicated, but it works and I don't need to worry about erasing pencil lines!
Hope you enjoy this, and PLEASE crit and comment! As I said earlier, I spent a lot of time on this and it would be appreciated!

I adore the colours, and the cute little guy! I also like the organic, slightly sumi-e borders of the panels. Congratulations on the DD, well deserved.

This is amazing. The colors and frames are so simple yet detailed and complex. How long did this take you?
It's really beautiful and I really like the way some of the frames just seem to kinda flow with the rest.. wow. The lighting is amazing, and I love that you don't need words to understand what's going on.
What kind of watercolor paper/paint do you use?? The colors are so vibrant

Your use of colour is so gorgeous. I particularly enjoy the design of the character, as well.
It might just be me, but I think it would be better if you made the entire thing smaller.

Granted, I'm not a visually artistic person myself, but I do love the first few panels. Earnest is adorable, and it automatically made me want to give him a huge hug!

Awww glad you liked him! He's influenced by a bunch of different characters I've seen over the years, and though he's supposed to be a little shadow person, I wanted to make him as cuddly as possible.

This is so beautiful. I was completely taken by suprise when i zoomed in, it really tells the story without having to use words.
I really love it and the mix of colours you've used within it and how you've blended them together, creating different tones and making a really nice effect and detailed painting. It's so creative and your character...Earnest? Is so cute! :>

I love a lot of things about this. Most striking to me at the moment is how well the shape of your panels indicate the movement and feel of the story. I also love the colors, the simplicity of the main character, and the fact that you don't need words or even complex expressions to indicate mood. Great job!

Yesh, someone pointed it outβ'Eric' from Shaun Tan. Though I must say this was also influenced by Calcifer (Howl's Moving Castle), shadow puppets, one of Hello Kitty's friends, and Shadow 2 from Gunnerkrigg Court.

I'm very impressed by this... It's a nice character, and I especially like how you can see his body through the leaf in the first panels, and when the light comes out of the suitcase - the warm contrast between the blue and pinky orange is really nice. As someone pointed out in the critique, the blur between some of the panels seems disturbing - it need not be there I think, or at least you should keep to traditional media when blurring

The transparent leaf is amazing I must say. :3 I also rarely see watercolor used with such vivid colors which I like. [ it's usually a traditional light touch of color]
Lastly, the story is clear and well executed, you can follow along easily and I'm eager to find out what happens next.

** I forgot to ad, I agree with a few others, the photoshop blur doesn't help the transition well because it lacks the texture of the rest of the piece.

Wow, your character is so "simple" yet so original and captivating! I can imagine becoming a fan of that little guy, plus he seems to have an adventurous life, haha. Great use of colors, dynamic composition and I simply love the way you inked it! For a moment there I thought you painted it traditionally and THEN inked it in photoshop or something.
Congrats on a well-deserved DD!
