Macrostoma encephalans, colloquially known as the "brain squid", is a species of the glass squid genus Macrostoma, noted for their unusually pedunculate and prominent rostrum.  The Encephalans species (from the Greek εγκέφαλος meaning "brain") is so named due to the resemblance of an unstudied opaque organ to the human brain.  As few species have ever been recovered, the function of this organ is a matter of debate. [1]  Some scientists have speculated that its function may be digestive [2] as the only other prominent opaque organ in the mantle of glass squids is largely equivalent to the mammalian liver, but this is merely speculation—its true nature remains a mystery.

(Who knows, perhaps it is a brain 8> )

(I totally just made this up right now, please don't think it's legitimate science / Wikipedia text XDD )
