Quicky Design of PSP2.0I found out at the end of the day the Kotaku was running unofficial design challenge of next PSP.
Spent couple of hours on it... so it's pretty rough...
Also, I wish i had a 3D program. it would have looked better rendered...
*IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!
-I HAD NO IDEA THIS IMAGE WOULD DRAW OVER 15,000 PEOPLE IN ONE DAY... FOR THAT MATTER IT REALLY MADE THE CONTEST SUPER UNFAIR. I USUALLY GET COUPLE HUNDRED VIEWS PER DAY. SO I THOUGHT IT WOULDN'T UPSET THE VOTE THAT MUCH... BUT THIS LITTLE REQUEST OF MINE MUDDLED THE GOOD SPORT OF FAIR GAME OF CONTEST. I AM ASKING TO HAVE MY ENTRY TAKEN OFF SINCE I INADVERTENTLY BECAME A CHEATER. But you can enjoy the design here...
I DO SUPER APPRECIATE ALL YOUR COMMENT THOUGH. I will try to compile the thoughts behind this design soon. It will address a lot of comments you are making.

Did you see the thing about ELECTRO-WETTING?
The screen can be rolled up!
When off, you can have a small phone sized item, when on, it splits in two, and the screen rolls out between the two halfs. (held with some kind of folding frame).
These screens can finally be made in color. They are very low power.
If they use an Electro-wetting tech screen in this mannor. The PSP2 could be as small as an ipod in the pocket, but open out to have a 10 inch screen for playing games!
I don't like the psp go though, far too small :/

Very good idea! I don't have a psp, but I know if they came out with this one, I'd definitely think about it. It seems very versatile, and because it slides together, it packs more gear in a smaller space

this is a magnificent design, good luck! It would probably cost $600 which is much more than a console, but still cool.

It's really nice, the idea is superb and your drawing skills have a nice style to it.
Only thing I would suggest, is on that stretch clip on panel you include that kind of fills the gap, you could have the "S" of PSP, extend over the back, rather than be split in half, so maybe extend the tail of the s right too the other side.
Just a small little detail, great job though it's really cool.

I'm not 2 sure about the protectile cover thing (it would need 2 B able 2 stand alone when detached ... U mite wanna elaborate on this) but the rest of the design is AWESOME !
Also phone = win 'cause (too) many pple use their PSP as a fashion accessory rather than actual console so making it a phone is a pretty good idea.

How in the worl are you a cheater because you received recognition for a wonderful design? If anything, you are more likly to win, and more likly to actually have this product design appear on the markets.

i like it but a little lock on the opening "wings" would be nice think what will happen if you put too much pressure on the wings.. they close and you can get frustrated

At first, I treated your picture like a parody. You know, mobile phones can take photographs and they have touchscreen as well, etc.
But now, I think such a scenario is kinda possible.

Only one problem I see with this: Phone Capability. It would probably work in Japan and everywhere bUT The United States because most foreign countries using cellulars use SIM Cards still. The Larger portion of Cell phones in US no longer use SIM Cards because they allowed you to take your service to Any Phone. (Like you could get a blackberry on Sprint when sprint didn't have BlackBerries.)
So... It would become another iPhone: available on ONE Network and forcing those who truly wanted it to switch carriers.
One idea to fix that? Make it Skype Capable. Skype is free to use between skype customers and is only something like.. $20/year to call non-skype members. And the bonus? You wouldn't HAVE to use it, it's a bonus feature. You also wouldn't have to switch phone services for it.
Otherwise, it's a pretty good design.

nice design, the only flaws could be that depending on how thin u want it to be, the side bits coming out would leave the screen in a very fragile position. if it were to be reinforced, etr. it would raise the cost massively.
other than maybe cost, i think that an awesome design! i would get one ;D
