Description
Part 2: [link]Hooray! I was thinking about doing this tutorial for a long time, but only got to it today. I'm not sure if there's already anything like this around, if not, there is now!
Sorry for the crappy quality of some images, most of these used to be transparent XD
All images used in this tutorial were done by me, except for the traditional bird which was done by ~StormSiren here [link] (and adopted by me
If you like this and find it useful, please comment and fave!

Yay I'm no the only one who draws designs merely to practice anatomy and colouring and making good designs, then sells them as adopts!

A good free art program is GIMP, I used that before I could afford to pay for the adobe suite. But of course if you are aiming for a career in digital art and design it's important to know how to use at least photoshop Also I'm glad you found this useful ^^

I've been quite uneducated about the world of "adoptables" until now. This is very helpful both as an adopting, uh, parent(?) as well as an adoptable artist.

This helped me form an idea on it, but I'm still not sure I get what adoptables are in the first place could you enlighten me?

Forget the word "adoptable" for a second, completely disregard the relevancy to what it is. This is a guide to making/buying/selling character designs. Does that help?

No, I'm mostly confused what the purpose is of buying and selling them (i read the advantages of both but that doesn't really clear up the purpose I think)

Oh, well basically people buy adoptables because they either want a character of the artists made-up species, they like the design for sale or think they can't come up with something similar on their own, or simply they like the artists work and want a piece of it in the form of said design
People sell them to make points or money, perhaps to broaden what types of art they do and get new kinds of watchers/audiences.

It depends on the adoptable itself. If you're more popular though, you can get away with pricing them pretty high, but if you're just starting out and you're not incredibly confident it will be easy to get your designs sold, I'd go with 1-30 points. It's okay to drop the price later on if they're not selling though, most people on dA are tight asses when it comes to points

I suppose having a fair amount of watchers, people willing to commission you or just a lot of people liking your art

Well it depends how much they seem to like your art I'm not incredibly popular, I can't really be the judge of that

Well don't be afraid to test and see how much you can push it If you have nice designs that you put effort into, you could start with 100+ point designs and see if they sell

Awesome tutorial! A lot of useful tips, and I love the drawing tutorial links in the other one ^^
Maybe if you do another or add on you could say something about selling adoptables from doll makers? I don't know, Im just against them because much like a solid grey wolf, it is /literally/ something someone else could come up with :T

I love this tutorial! :3
OH ALSO
You should add a part explaining that textures don't make great designs because they're extremely hard to replicate. (Especially for Paint users such as myself)

And I'm glad you've found it useful
