Description
I still think "The Dover Boys" is one of the funniest cartoons ever made and one of the best satirical pieces ever done. Humor has an unfortunate tendency to date itself, but here you have a cartoon made in the 1940's that is based on 1890's culture, and it's still funny today, and it'll still be funny 500 years from now.The beauty in its timelessness is that "The Dover Boys" makes a complete absolute hack of a story structure so basic that it could be making fun of any story. Everything from the heroic leads to the damsel to the villain is either exaggerated or turned upside down. It also has the best payoff of any pointless running gag I've ever seen.
And I really wish I could start a meme out of Mel Blanc's delivery of the line in this picture; it is absolutely classic and it's the perfect response to anyone who's swiped somebody else's dA art.

The Dover Boys definitely ranks as one of the best Looney Tunes cartoons in my eyes. I still find it absolutely hilarious even to this day. Your drawing of Dan Backslide is definitely a funny take on him as well.
Gotta love Mel Blanc's delivery of that line. He says it with the subtlety of an elephant doing the Can-Can down the street.

Part of what makes that line so funny is Mel Blanc's performance, he sounds completely hysterical when he says it.

"I hate Tom! I hate Dick! I hate Larry!" (pounds the ground with both fists in frustration). Classic!

That's funny that he's yelling that. Doesn't he realize that I've bugged his secret evil head quarters?
btw, you're really in the know about the history of comics.

"Dover Boys" is a Looney Tune, not a comic book.

There are a couple of YTP's based on Dover Boys. Both of them make liberal use of Dan Backslide's line. Not quite a meme, but it's something.

Nicely done! Great pose, great background, great font too! (What's that font called, by the way? I've seen you use it before.) Oh, and I echo your sentiments - "The Dover Boys" is freaking hilarious. ("Unhand her, Dan Backslide! Unhand her, Dan Backslide! Unhand her, Dan Backslide! ...Say, we're getting in a rut!")
I already use "I'LL STEAL IT! NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW!" all the time. Someone needs to make a "plz" account out of it, if they haven't already.
