I still think "The Dover Boys" is one of the funniest cartoons ever made and one of the best satirical pieces ever done. Humor has an unfortunate tendency to date itself, but here you have a cartoon made in the 1940's that is based on 1890's culture, and it's still funny today, and it'll still be funny 500 years from now.

The beauty in its timelessness is that "The Dover Boys" makes a complete absolute hack of a story structure so basic that it could be making fun of any story. Everything from the heroic leads to the damsel to the villain is either exaggerated or turned upside down. It also has the best payoff of any pointless running gag I've ever seen.

And I really wish I could start a meme out of Mel Blanc's delivery of the line in this picture; it is absolutely classic and it's the perfect response to anyone who's swiped somebody else's dA art.
