Description
Another concept piece as a follow up to the first one, this one shows the full front of the uniform, plus some accessories. As you can see, there is very little hard armor on the suit. The uniform is a basic padded leather jumpsuit kind of thing, like the movie X-Men or upcoming G.I. Joe movie uniforms. The shins and forearms are armored, since they would be receiving the most impact in hand-to-hand or melee combat.
The gold emblem is now a generic Ranger logo, instead of animal-specific emblems.
The Morpher doesn't create the suit around the body (and will likely be renamed). It is an interface for controlling suit and armor functions. In an emergency, the Morpher can eject all armor components, and it can also provide a short burst of shield, like the shield grenade thing Master Chief used in the Halo 3 trailer.
Remember in the original Power Ranger series, they all had that gun that turned into the short sword? It now is two separate units that fold down into compact boxes that can attach to hard points on the thighs. More fold-out accessories can be added or interchanged to the suit, depending on mission profile or Ranger preference.
As for the helmets still retaining identifiable traits from previous Ranger series (these two are from the original Ranger series), I haven't fully worked that out yet. Perhaps it will be a distant future for the established Power Ranger timeline, when Ranger initiates find they match certain attributes to past Rangers and are given helmets that hark back to their prior trait matches. I dunno.

This is awesome! I always wondered what power rangers would look like if they were more serious.

I really like this idea! The idea that while, yes there are the colored team, the generic black police squad deals with the mooks and enmasse the monster. Would they get their own zord as well? I mean as a group to summon in case of giant monster attacks and the colored team can't get there in time.

I'm pretty torn on the Zord issue. While I love giant robots, particularly piloted giant robots, I don't feel like they would fit in this idea. The geek-oriented focus would be on the tech of the Rangers themselves, particularly in their suits and additional powered suits.
With the release of the newest Halo Reach live-action commercial "Deliver Hope," where we see Kat running along to deliver a bomb, I'm particularly inspired by Legacy Effects' costume design on Kat's Spartan armor. I'm not so much inspired by the Spartan armor aspect of it, but by the fact that in being a female character, they slimmed down the Spartan armor for her body type (at least in portions of the costume, when compared to the Noble 6 armor from the same live-action commercial). So the idea I'm working with right now is that they are all Rangers, and that there are "powered" troopers within the unit that wear bulkier, strength/speed-improving body armor, and I'm really wanting to design the powered suits with the same aesthetics of the live-action Spartan armor. The trick is keeping within the realm of Power Rangers, but drawing from Legacy Effects' costume enough that you can tell it's been brought into a modern cinematic vision. So that's the main vision of this idea.
However, I definitely am open to ideas on how to best incorporate the idea of the zords into my vision. I really don't want it to be a slow-moving giant T-Rex, though, so maybe something along the lines of a sleek Mechwarrior kind of deal. I wouldn't have all the Rangers operating Zords, though. I still want to treat it as a military structure, so the Zords would be the mechanized combat teams. Also, I wouldn't have them right at the beginning either. I'd want it to be that Zed is upping his game and creating "larger problems" for the Rangers, and the zords would be their response.

If you look at it, you'll see blue accents. And if you look at the other one, they're both black, suggesting that I'm making them all black with differentiating accent colors.

Since colors in this Power Rangers universe denote role or department, I'm thinking all-black rangers would be unassigned or non commissioned Rangers. Like they haven't "earned their colors" yet, so to speak.
