Description So it's been a looooooooooong time in development, but it's still not done. This is the third concept for my Power Rangers idea. Here is the top half of the powered armor. And it's sketched on my iPad in Sketchbook Pro.

The obvious inspiration for this is Halo and a teensy bit of Iron Man (thought I only saw it after I drew it - hah). When the first images of the new Halo Reach live action trailer (Deliver Hope) popped up on the internet, I knew I wanted to take this idea in that direction as far as costume design goes. In the Deliver Hope trailer, Kat's suit is definitely Spartan, but it's somewhat slim fit, and with all the detailing in the inner panels and parts toward the neck and arm opens, I was inspired to apply that same idea to my Power Rangers concept. I knew that's the direction I wanted to take the powered armor anyways, but I needed one last bit of direction for actually implementing the idea.

So the powered armor is based on the Green Ranger from the first Power Rangers. However, this is how all the powered armor will look in my Power Rangers concept. They all have the "shield," here implemented as shoulder pads. This armor is worn over the standard Ranger gear from the previous concepts.

Now keep in mind, not all the Rangers in my concept wear the powered armor. The more I think through the idea, the more components I'm drawing from Halo. So you can think that the Rangers in power armor serve as the Spartan role for the story, but they're not as exclusive of a group. Keeping with the military theme, the powered armor Rangers are a whole division, but there are far more standard Rangers. So you might have 5-10 powered suits to a platoon, maybe one or two to a squad. Of course, in the heat of battle, you might see whole groups of powered suits fighting against the more powerful of Zed's forces while the regulars fight Zed's grunts. But I haven't developed the idea that far yet.

Awesome. I always wanted to see a darker, more realistic version of the power rangers.

Actually, in the background I've been trying to develop a generic Ranger logo, so what you see on his chest is an attempt at a symmetrical lightning bolt.

Looks great :D I saw the Halo inspiration only after I read your description and it suddenly looked a lot better. So they'll be much like super soldiers than ninjas in your concept? In the powered state at least. Whats your approach on the weapons btw? You going to keep those laser pistols and such or going to implement realistic firearms, maybe paralleling Reach with a squad-like approach? (As in, a soldier, CQC, sniper, heavy, techie, etc)

but imagine a special Power Ranger armor in Reach

Weapons I'm still on the thought process on. I really like the idea of breaking the little power sword/gun thing apart into two distinct weapons for the unarmored Ranger, while still maintaining the red/teeth theme on them. I cant help but wonder if the idea would still work supersized? You know, the Powered Ranger would carry them on his or her armor on the back in folded configuration, and then pull them out, and it unfolds into an assault rifle kind of thing. Or a larger sword or other melee weapon. I think I rather like that idea. And you can really go nuts with it to make special weapons like a longbow or something.

I'm definitely moving away from the ninja idea entirely, though melee combat is still definitely a big component of the concept. The regular rangers would still be soldiers, and the Powered Rangers would be the special forces that handle the big berserkers.

I don't want to parallel Halo too much, though. I want to keep it distinctively Power Rangers, but also very adult-oriented, and very practical. If a Ranger team needs 14 operatives, you have 14 operatives. If you need 3, you have 3. And each team/squad would be built according to the mission needs. So you might have 4 science operatives and 2 combat specialists on a mission to recover stolen medical equipment or artifacts.

Keep it coming guys. I love comments like these. I'd love to develop it into a short comic or something.

Ohh okay. So the unarmored Ranger has a sword and a pistol? What about if they been sorta.. taken by the military or whoever and experimented on, to understand their mechanics, then upgraded or something. Like a semi-automatic lazer pistol. Or bullets with built in micro-turbines that generate a tiny lazer that increase the bullets penetrating power. Crazysauce like that. But can you explain your transforming/folding weapons idea again sorry Do you mean that they could combine their original melee and longrange weapons into a "ranger" weapon for their armored form?

Ooh okay. So.. more like MGS style? I imagine them working spec-op/stealth missions, so what kind of environments would they be working in for you? And sticking to the MGS thing, maybe the "green" ranger (or equivalent in your concept) could be robo-ninja, in comparison with this armored ranger who'd seem to be suited in a full on war.

Oh. OH. So you're ditching the 5 ranger member law then? Even though some of the shows have 7 or 8 lol. Or are they like.. treated like Spartans in Halo? Super soldiers? Or just equal to experienced vets? And how many of them are there o.o And sorry for all the questions!

I'm really getting into this. I said in another comment I had an insanely similar idea. I'd love to be of any help to you. But you probably should check the licsencing details first lol
