Well, for several years now, I've had an idea for Power Rangers that takes our kid-friendly team and turns them into a police-type force that combats the efforts of invading tyrannical aliens, led by none other than Zed. The Rangers are more of a world-wide unit, or perhaps a planetary system-wide force, as if humans have spread out in the Solar System and even to "nearby" systems in the Milky Way Galaxy.Instead of teenagers, these guys are thoroughly conditioned and battle-hardened soldiers and form more of military unit than the fab-5 we're used to seeing. Colors denote member function, much like the uniform colors on Star Trek where red is command staff, blue is sciences and medical, gold is engineering and security. I haven't developed the idea far enough to come up with proper color designations, but the idea here is that if a member of a team (or squad) is killed in action, a replacement can file in and resume his or her role.
Another idea I've recently developed for this concept is that they are all "Rangers" as an umbrella organization. Then you have units that have bulkier body armor that are trained to work in special circumstances, and these Rangers would be the "Powered Rangers" (powered here denotes the additional special armor).

i watched an episode of power rangers samurai and i was appalled by the costumes, there concept was not much different from mighty morphin. the acting was terrible but i guess their target audience is children below 8 years of age (give or take a year). 1 thing i really liked though was the energy of the show, the music and enthusiasm of the rangers is what made me look up alternative concepts for the rangers, then i ran into your work and i must say i like it alot, i like the whole dark concept i believe by doing this the power rangers show could possibly expand their audience. in all honesty im not too excited about the whole space thing dont get me wrong it is a great idea i guess im just not blown by it and i probably cant think of anything better myself.
im gona get started on some concept art for the rangers myself so a scenario of who or what the power rangers defend, protect, weapons they use etc is gna be mandatory for me. i would like to focus on the original samurai rangers and try to create a fusion of original power rangers costume and mortal kombat ninja costume, i think thats a good place to start. what it could evolve into is something i cant wait to work on, i would love to see the completion of this project. i loved the power rangers growing up and i wish children of today could get excited as i did before the show started (even though every episode was similar) good job!!, i will follow your work and share mine.

It's a great design; love the predominance of black here with just the stripes to denote 'rank', as you said. I personally think it'd be great for someone to attempt a more grown-up version of the Power Rangers for all of us who grew up watching the series and are now almost 30 o_O time flies!

The concept behind power rangers goes back to the samurai squads that were made famous in japanese movies, the whole concept of "morphin" was inspired by the samurai's most famous tactic during a war setting, dressing up to resemble japanese demons by wearing monstrous armor and a helmet that would scare the crap out of anyone who dared to get in their way.
In fact your concept isnt far off from what Disney was trying to built off but "Disney's" version was stupider compared to yours. The thought of the "RANGER" force being spread out across the world with all of them using the concept of a chosen breed of war soldiers with the frontline forces requiring a constant update of technology. This they tried to make apparent by using the battlizer concept but unfortunately theyre attempts of chaining all their seasons together as seperate branches of the Power Ranger Organization that could be called together failed in their "ONCE A RANGER" attempt in Operation Overdrive

i've had a similar idea of just turning it really gorey/realistic. like when they get hit by lazers, their arms and legs blow off in a bloody mess. seriously wtf do those lasers do otherwise. make sparks and an explosion around the actual target?
but yeah. they'd go crazy after killing a load of aliens and having their guts all in their face or some of them use the power for corrupt purposes and shit. though your idea has a hell of a lot more direction XD
