Description
I let my computer render for 1.5 weeks on the final close-up image with displacement and it was like 60% done, screw that. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to keep the displacement maps so the last pic is less believable.Full rez

really nice detailed work looks quite realistic for me and your 1,5 weeks - rendertime - 60% thingy alone is worth the
nice keep on working

Nice work. A couple of the textures look a little 'flat', but most of them work really well. How's the boat coming along?

Yo James 2, thanks for the comments. The boat is nearly done but I haven't opened 3dsm in monthes, I guess I got burned out... How have you been? I need to get on MSN sometimes...

I'm good. Finished exams today so I'll be playing around with C4D/Vray over the next month (check my scraps for a WIP). I don't think I've been on MSN since last holidays (about 14 weeks ago)..

Currently it looks like micromachines because you make short dept of field.

Even with Vray these ones took so long? Whew...
Great one. Very detailed and realistic looking, modeling wise. Actually a hard thing to achieve, but you got it.
And although the render does look excellent, I personally wouldn't call it photoreal. But I'm really strict on that part, it's just that I'm too much into realism recently. It's about tiny details but once you're too deep into it you notice them everywhere
But nevertheless, this is top notch stuff, nice concept as well! It's actually cute

Yeah, it was hard to diagnose the issue but I believe it was the complexity of the displacement maps(used a 1024x1024 bitmap) and the DOF. Only close up views really killed the rendering.... I let this thing run for over a week and it didn't finish. I'm kinda drunk right now, sorry. I notice the issues too, the characteristics of a vray render that you can pick up on when you really look closely. Thanks man! Good night.

Mate top stuff! Did you intend the Dof to give it that miniature look? Love the materials you've created! What did you use to render it? vray? in max? Would be so cool to see a rickety, rattling animation of this!

toThePixel In reply to Wissemann [2009-05-02 16:07:07 +0000 UTC]
Yeah dude, the DOF is there to make it appear smaller, kind of like a model of sorts. I was intending it to be about the size of a shoe box. I used Vray with lots of custom textures I'm gonna release soon.

Man this is so dope, love it.
Edit: Fuck me, I thought this was something you'd made by hand and taken some photos of, then I read the description.
What did you render this in?

toThePixel In reply to voze [2009-05-02 04:19:41 +0000 UTC]
Nice! This was precisely my idea, a hand crafted tank assembled from scrap metals found around a machine shop or something. I used Vray and a bunch of custom textures.
