What makes you think The Batter isn't his father?
In my analysis, this entire world is in the mind of Hugo who is in some kind of coma. His talk of pills in his little journal and such. In fact, there is an unused song in the music folder called "Stay In Your Coma" (that I loved so much that I took it into Audacity to make it longer). So, while "The Batter" may not be his father, I believe he is Hugo's interpretation of him. If you remember he didn't seem to have a good relationship, like he was neglectful. And then of course in the comic book the Batter is the bad guy, which further backs up my analysis.
Buuut those are just my thoughts.

As far as I know, "Stay In Your Coma" is also used when you are foolish enough to make the batter die. (blabla)
Also, you said it. I do agree. Hugo is reffered to as "the creator" at the wiki, supporting this theory.
