First (finished) piece of SPG fanart!

SPG stands for Steam Powered Giraffe , a band I have recently become obsessed with.

With three humans, and three "robots", they are a steampunk cabaret troupe. The three iconic members dress in dapper garb, wear robot make-up (done themselves), do robotic pantomime, and have hilarious skits and banter on stage.

Which is enough to love them even if you don't like their music (and I don't understand how you wouldn't). For a first impression, I would suggest going to Youtube and searching "Steam Powered Giraffe Honeybee", their single. Yes, you have to watch it as well as listen.

Anyway, this here features The Spine, and the human Michael Reed. I have a headcanon that states that though The Spine never seems to have any malfunctions, he has a problem with his oil reserve that causes leakage in his oral cavity (a theory spawned from watching the video for Automatonic Electronic Harmonics).

The picture itself was a real breakthrough for me! Not only is it the first piece completed since the beginning of my art block (which has been going on for months), but I also did it with no references for the poses (since I couldn't find any). Also, for my artwork I've started using a base sketch for placement and figures, then a secondary sketch, and finally a new layer for lineart. This time, I actually "sculpted" the lineart from the sketch layer, a technique that's useful for quick pictures!
Oh, and this was my first time drawing a robot, too.

Beyond that, this picture also holds a story. I showed this to a friend of mine, and she wanted to write a small excerpt of fanfiction for it! She wrote a rough draft with the (very feels-inducing) plot, and I edited it and put in fancy descriptions as her co-writer! The parts that are specifically mine would be the descriptions of said headcanon, since they art my theories c:
