She's definitely my baby.
With skunks, it really depends - my white one has a very soft, sleek, fine coat. Charlie has a coarser, shaggier coat. Some skunks have very long hair and some have very short hair - the softness seems to depend on colouration, hair length and genetic factors. In winter, the fur is thicker, with long guard hairs, but it also has a downy underlayer, which is very soft. In summer, this downy underlayer disappears and the long guard hairs feel a bit coarse. The tail is always very rough and the hairs are stiff, so they can flare them. 
They are super cuddly!
