I'm really glad awdry decided not to make the tenders alive, it would have made things too complicated.

Er, excuse me, (I realize I'm bumping an old thread), but if you'd like a model built, I think my company can build one.

A friend of mine said once that the trucks have to always look at the engine's ass when travelling.. but since the tender is separate the locomotive, does that mean Tender Tender is not an ass?
I am confussled.

The ass is where the buffers are I think. Tank engines have it behind the actual loco, but tender engines do not. Therefore the tender is the only thing that is sort of part of the loco, since it cannot run without it, and since they use a different coupling to the standard stock, that has buffers. So Tender Tender is still an ass.

Ah, by your logic that makes sense, but then does that mean that they(tender engines) can remove their asses?

Dear god why does Dean's drawing of the Double Farlie come to mind?

Haha yes, I hadn't really thought of that. Originally Tender Tender was just going to be depressed, then I showed Nal and Cam and they made the 'ass' comments which made me realise one was needed in the drawing. So now I have a ass character, may have to draw Tender Tender some more at some point, first real character I've drawn. But yeah, it reminds me of Dean's drawing too, now you mention it

Nah, it'd probably been cut up. Plus, all of those tenders were Fowler tenders, possibly Gordon tender spares, painted a dirty, black/brown sludgy colour.
