The most successful Freight Diesel ever built in Amarica and one of the most well know diesel's out there by Railfans. Were as the F40PH is the most well know Passenger Diesel, The EMD SD40-2 is the most well know Freight Diesel. Built back from 1972 to 1989. The SD40-2 is a 3,000 Horsepower Freight Locomotive made to haul freight as in the mid 80's US Railroads were moving away from 4 axel's Locomotives in favor of 6 axel Locomotives as they shown to have better weight distribution and improved tractive effort.
