during world war 2 sir topham hatt brought an american S100 to help on sodor from the war department the engine had no name just a number 1940. engine 1940 was rude stubborn and never listened to advice but one day in 1944 he was taking a train of gunpowder to the army base to barrow in furness edward warned him to be careful but 1940 did not listen and left. but as engine 1940 was crossing the embankment the track shifted and then collapsed 1940 fell to his death taking his cars with him and he exploded on impact when he and his train hit the ground edward arrived to retrieve the remains of 1940 and engine 1940 was scrapped now 1940 haunts sodor looking for any engine or villain to scare and he is looking for his sister rosie.
